Through the Lens: Challenge #1

Hi everyone! Welcome to the new photography challenge! If you missed the particular details, check out this thread. Otherwise, let's get snapping!

Photography can be many things - from quickly pointing and shooting to intentionally creating a piece of art. That being said, I love the concept of photography as an art form, but realistically - how much true photo composition can I do with a 2 year old?? Very little - therefore I am all the more thrilled when I capture a "wow" photo of one of my children.

The true potential and beauty of photography shows when you take the time to compose your photo. When you look through your camera or LCD panel and make conscious decisions about about the angle, contrast, color, focus etc of your photo - then we are talking photography as an art forum. This is what we are going to try to do with the "Through the Lens" challenge.

Every other week, I will post a new "topic" that we will photograph. We will use the techniques we are learning in the Technique Challenge (posted on alternate weeks) to improve our photography and increase the "wow"'s we get when sharing our photos with someone! This challenge is about intentionally looking through our camera and making decisions about how to compose the shot.

Ready??? Let's get started!

Challenge #1: An Ordinary Item

I don't know how many times a day in my shuttling around of the kids and doing errands that I look at the same things and think "wow, that is really pretty!" But do I have a picture of any of these items, sadly, no! So our challenge for this week, is to photograph something that you see frequently in your day-to-day travels that is beautiful to you. Something that strikes you, something that makes you stop and thinking "wow."

Take the time to compose the photo. In this case, don't point and shoot. Rather point, look at, think about, adjust and then shoot. Then upload your favorites to this gallery and then come and link here so we can take a look too! (Don't be surprised too if this challenge shows up again in a few months so we can compare how we have grown as photographers).

I can't wait to see what everyone else sees! I'll be back with my own photos shortly!

This is an excellent challenge. I know I could use the practice in terms of creating art with my camera. Though I try and think that sometimes i am, I don't really think that I do what I set out to do. I can't wait to get started!
