Oh, SR, this is perfect. Our family celebrates the Winter Solstice each December (just another excuse for a celebration, and it is science related so DH is all for it). W.S. is coming next week. We turn off all the lights in the house and only can use electricity to power the Christmas lights, the stereo, and the heat (we even order out Chinese for dinner so we don't have to turn on the stove. One year we BBQ'd in the snow). It's the shortest day of the year here in the northern U.S. so we celebrate the return of the sun by being in darkness, and being together without the TV and other distractions. We play games, drink hot cocoa (or hot buttered rums, for us parents) and visit all evening. And our only sorce of light.....candles. So, now, after my long story, I've got a goal. I'll be back. Thanks for the link SR, I'll check it out for some tips.
