I'm not a designer who sells in a store. I just design things for my own use, things I make for others, or give away. But I have found Art Rage useful.

I have made some great textured papers by squirting paint out of the tube, then spreading it or blending it with other colors with the palette knife. I have used them as background papers and as texture overlays.

You can save shapes in png format and use them as stencils in Art Rage. That's usually how I make my glitter stuff because my freehand drawing is terrible. But you could fill the stencils with textured paint just as easily.

Amy the stencil feature in the newest version of Art Rage is great. You can create something in your graphics program then import it into AR and create a stencil. From there you can do whatever...glitter it, color it, paint it, etc.

I have also started drawing/doodling in AR using my tablet which is way easier for me than learning Illustrator lol.

Personally, there isn't anything in Artrage that I can't find a way to do in PS. I think that it does have a smaller learning curve but that also is in part because it doesn't do as much either.
