Have your restarted your pc since you installed it? I haven't used Nortons in a LONG time but do remember having that option.

Yeah I have restarted a million times , I have been reinstalling all my software since I had to reinstall my operating system :P I didnt lose many files since I had everything backed up but I really miss that option of scanning a file that I just downloaded. I have been picking up fonts here and there that I had lost and would like to scan them , I thought that I read that it scans automatically but would like to make sure .

When you right click from taskbar - click "open norton protection center, then at the top of the new window click the "norton anti-virus" tab on the right - then click on "run a scan" then select "run a custom scan" - from here you should be able to select certain files/folders - I am assuming - I have never done it though!

Hope this helps some!

Well seems that with the new 2008 Norton (360) you do not have that option ( they say that its not needed) . Whenever you download , open a folder or move it ect. it is scanned.

I am such a rebel.. I took off all virus scanning software when I last redid my system.. these products are such memory and resource hogs! I basically perform a virus scan every few weeks and then immediately remove the software.. I know it is not foolproof.. but then again.. I'm not all that concerned if something did happen because I can easily restore.

You might look into AVG for a lighter VS software... Norton and MCAfee are just too resource intensive... but.. Good luck!
