There was an article in the new Photoshopuser magazine talking about using Corel Painter IX to paint portraits. Here's is a sample of some portraits using Corel Painter IX:

Hiya Kim! I hope you got my postcard by now. We are back in BC at our mom and Dads for a bit before heading home. I use Painter 9 and love it and will share any knowledge with you when I get home. Thank you all! I decided to purchase since it comes with a training CD. Hopefully, I won't have bug anyone too much. I've used Lynda's CD to learn PS and I really like her format. But I may still take you up on the offer Lalalime!
