Unhappy You know that song parody "The 12 Pains of Christmas?" (kinda long)

Well, that was my Christmas and I guess I just need to vent a little. My oldest DS, Alex (5 yrs old) spiked a fever on Thursday night, had it all day off and on Friday and ended up passing out on the couch before we were able to do any of the Christmas Eve traditions our family has. Saturday morning wasn't any better. The poor kid wasn't even excited about opening presents!

While all of this was going on, my other DS, Connor (2 yrs old) started wheezing on Friday night. Well, I had forgotten to give him his allergy med sample before I took him to my parents' house (they have three long haired cats). I gave him the medicine, but he still wheezed a little. By the time we finished opening presents the next morning, he was having a REALLY hard time. My Mom took him in her room for a nap and he was okay until about an hour after he woke up. He started wheezing again and didn't eat hardly any dinner. He was miserable. So right after eating, him and I had to run home. As soon as I got him home and changed, he was fine!

Well, we ended up taking Alex to the ER Saturday night with a temp of 102.5 and they told us that he probably has strep throat (rapid test came back negative but they sent it out for a culture anyways). Had him back to the doctors yesterday with a fever of 103.2 and the doctor said he thinks there's something viral going on too. Said his throat was nasty looking. He gave him a super antibiotic shot in his leg to bring his fever down, yet this morning, he STILL had one of 103. Took him back to the ER and 98.6 (which I chalk up to being in 40 degree weather)!

And to top everything off, our heating system died on Christmas day! Finally got it fixed last night (spent one night at my parents, which resulted in Connor getting sick again, and the next night the landlord put us up in a hotel).

So basically, we had a rotten Christmas, plenty of presents but health was down the drain, and I just needed to vent!

Update on Alex

Well, Connor was in for his 2 year checkup today and the kids' doctor took one look at Alex and could tell he wasn't feeling well. She had the nurse come back in to take his temp and it was 102 again. I told her that he'd been running the temp since Thursday and nothing was really taking care of it. The alternating Tylenol and Motrin brought it down to around 100 but never really took it away. I told her that he had his over 103 a couple of times and she told the nurse to have his chart sent back. She ordered bloodwork, which came back normal (his white blood cells were normal) and gave him another Rosefin (sp?) shot before sending him for a chest x-ray (due to him complaining that his chest hurt). I have to take him back in tomorrow morning first thing. Hopefully we'll know something by then.

Sorry you're going through all of this Bri!
I'll be praying for you and that your little one's temp comes down- he must be fighting something really bad

God bless.

Sorry you are having a not so good Christmas Bri. I sure hope that Alex is feeling better soon and they are able to knock whatever it is out of his system. Here is hoping that your new year is better.

Chest X-Ray came back normal! She said he might have a touch of bronchitis, but no pneumonia. She's keeping him on the amoxicillian and gave him a prescription for Zithromax also to fight anything atypical that the amoxicillian can't. I have to call her in the morning and leave her a message with what his temp is and how he's doing. If it's still moderate to high, she's going to squeeze him in again because after tomorrow, they'll be gone until next week for the holiday.

He's feeling a bit better today though. His fever is hovering around 100-101.5, but he's definately starting to act more like himself. I've been able to get some toast into him too. I just wish we knew what it was, but like his doctor said, there are so many viruses that cause the symptoms he has (high fever, coating of the throat, etc) that the only way to find out is with more blood work and she didn't want to put him through that if he was starting to finally respond to the treatments. So we're just keeping our fingers crossed that he can fight this off and the antibiotics will help get rid of the bacterial probs the virus is causing!!

Thanks for all the well wishes! I think we just might get through this before the new year!
