I 2nd the corelle wear. We use the salad plate size for my girls. We've dropped on Tile flooring and wooden floors and no shattering.. Walmart carries them and you can buy 1 plate or so for not much!

I use the (hard) plastic picnic plates for my kids too. They last ages and are dishwasher safe

I'm all for Corelle. Reasonably priced I think and durable yet not a bulky style. Love how tightly they nest in the cupboard. They really are a space saving style of dishware.

weeeellll....it seems that Corelle WILL shatter! I actually dropped one of my plates tonight when unloading the dishwasher, and it totally shattered EVERYWHERE!

I realized that I have these little square flat plastic plates I use for the kids too - I got them at walmart or target during the summer when picnic type things are out. They're fun bright colors for the girls and dishwasher and microwave safe - and they won't shatter for sure! LOL

I've had Corelle shatter also. And it doesn't just break it explodes. I found little pieces clear across the room, under the refrigerator, in corners. Like Sarah said EVERYWHERE. It's a concern when you have small kids and/or pets as they may step on or eat these pieces. They're like little glass slivers, very sharp.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Corelle. Have had it for years and love the way it stacks and fits in the dishwasher.

DH has dropped several on our granite kitchen floor and they surprisely did not shatter
Maybe mine is too old and has gotten brittle.
