Smile right handed scrapper now learning to be a leftie

I have been off this site for quite awhile.... but i am determined to get back into scrapping. I had a stroke that effected the right side of my body (being right handed... it has been slow going re-learning the things i love shifting me dominant hand) Sooo i'm going to start back at the beginning with tutorials and try this left handed. I got a mouse with a trackerball which seems much easier, but so far am struggling with any thing beyond simple drag and drop. Any pointers or others that have tried to continue scrapping when switching dominant hands... I would love to hear from you! I'm excited to get started and just going to try not to get frustrated too quickly.

looking forward to becoming active in this community (lol need a nap now because typing one handed is still new to me too )

Hi Again Nichola! Glad that you are ready to give this a try again, sorry to hear about your medical problem. I wonder if something like a drawing tablet would help you instead of a mouse with these. Have you ever heard of a Wacom or a Bamboo tablet? It is a flat device that maps out the exact cordinates of your monitor on it's surface and you just have to move a pen shaped device around on it instead of a mouse.

I am left handed but Have always done the computer right handed... because that is how everyone has them set up... Around christmas time i hurt my right elbow and had to start using the mouse with the right hand... At first it was really bothersome.. but the more that I use it the easy er it gets... I still sometimes left click when i should right but every day it gets better. Just keep trying. It will bet easy I promise.

Hi Nichola and welcome back. I'm sorry to hear about your stroke but so admire your determination to get back into it. I don't have anything in the way of advice and I can certainly sympathize with the one handed typing. Just hang in there, keep practicing, and know that we are all behind you!

Hi Nichola. Welcome back. Starting at the beginning sounds like a good idea. Keep it simple to begin with and don't get discouraged. I'm thinking that the more you work at it the easier it will get. In fact, this sounds like pretty good therapy to me.

HI Nicola - glad to have you back and congratulations on your recovery! I think that Traceys suggestion of the Wacom would work well for you. You might also want to drop by a local computer store and see if they have any thing that might be recommended to make it easier for you

I just got a headset with microphone. Vista comes with a speech recognition program...maybe XP has it also. Although I just started playing with it today i have found I can open programs and even dictate comments in web browsers and word processing documents. That might helps some when alot of typing is involved. But using the mouse left handed in a photo editing document will probably jsut take a lot of practice. Kudos to you for trying. Your work flow may be slower but the outcome will still be rewarding, i'm sure.
