I can't believe I have to do this . . .

It looks like I'm going to have to speak to my son's principal tomorrow and it kinda makes me sick. He's had a substitute for the past few days and the sub is very ugly to the kids apparently. My son has complained that she called one child stupid and has told the class they are dumb. He said today that she was mean all day. I have met this woman once and she did come across as being abrasive to me. I also saw her briefly in the class Friday and she sounded short-tempered at the time. I didn't think a lot of it at the time because I'm sure kids this age are a handful. But after what my son has said, I think I really need to speak to the principal. My son is only in Kindergarten and no child should have to hear this from an adult. I don't speak to my children this way, and I can't tolerate someone else speaking to him this way.

What is the matter with people?

Oh, so sorry LaWanna! That is no fun at all! I'm sure it is hard to be a teacher - kids can be so exasperating. I'm sure that every teacher has had moments where they've lost their tempers. But, calling kids stupid and dumb just isn't good, especially when they are just beginning in school and need a lot of positive reinforcement so that they know they are smart and capable of learning! And if she's like that all the time, she probably just shouldn't be a teacher.
Good luck! (((HUGS)))

I homeschool my kids, and totally loose my patience sometimes, but it's ridiculous for kids to feel that their teacher is mean - and I'm sorry, I hate confrontation and dealing with these kinds of things!

oh thats sad news, I hate it when teachers call children stupid or dumb. I mean every child has the potential to be the next president if they are stimulated and believe in themselves. no need for a teacher to bring that dwn. Defenitly talk to the principal cause it is unacceptable for a teacher to talk to yuor children like that period.

Okay... what on earth is this sub on??? Calling kids "dumb" and "stupid" is BULLYING !!!!!
Make sure that this is entered in HER permanent record when you talk to the principal.

Yet another reason why I homeschool my kids too as I know they don't get physically, mentally or emotionally abused.

So sorry you have to do this. Unfortunately, I've had to do the same thing, only this time it was for my oldest dd's kindergarten teacher. Not a sub, the TEACHER! My dd has high-functioning autism and this teacher just couldn't handle it (all it would have taken is a little kindness and patience). I had parents come tell me they "overheard" the teacher yelling at my little girl, calling her "stupid" "baby" and other mean things. Other kids in the class told their parents what the teacher was doing, too. Can you believe it took us MONTHS to get our daughter out of that class. It took a lot of paper work on our part and "kissing up" to the principal to get our story believed. What really made us angry was that when this teacher retired a few years ago, the school and PTA threw her a huge party and had a big write-up in the newspaper about what a wonderful teacher she had been. I've run into so many parents who had similar experiences to our own with this particular teacher, but then also others who refuse to believe this teacher could do any wrong. If I had friends whose children had been mistreated by a teacher, I would tend to support the friend and their child, not the teacher. You can bet that from when this happend on, I make sure the teachers my kids have are wonderful and caring. I won't stand for meanness when it comes to children!

Okay, off my soapbox now.... Stick up for your son, LaWanna! Good luck!

I don't envy your situation, LaWanna, but I admire the fact that you're willing to face the principal and go to bat for the class. I hope you get some resolution and that things get better!
