NSBR: Getting ready for preschool

OK Moms! I need some advice...
Ds, age 4 is starting preschool this fall, maybe a full day (8-2)
and it starts in 2 months!!!!! YIKES!
So tell me how do you prepare them for that? The getting up early, driving to school etc. any words of wisdom?

Start talking about it now and mention it almost every day. How great it'll be, new friends, songs, crafts, etc. Explain the routine and what is going to happen often so that he won't be surprised or scared when it happens. Do a practice run to the school a few days and tell him that is where he will be going. Get him excited about the upcoming change. I've already started with my three year old DD. My four year old has no problem venturing off for new adventures; however, the little one is less bold. I'm trying to get her to think that school is the greatest thing in the world.

One thing I do for my 4-year-old dd is to put a sticker on the calendar for some event that is coming in the next couple of months. Every day we count the days down until the anticipated date is here. She is also starting preschool in the fall, so we'll play "school" together. I have her do a worksheet from a preschool workbook or color a picture. Sometimes I am the teacher, sometimes she is. We do a lot of talking about what is expected of her and what fun preschool will be. HTH!

The preschool DD will be going encourages the parents to take them to visit the school as often as they want so they get acquainted with the place. DD is quite familiar with the preschool already since this was where her older bro went too. She'll have the same teacher DS had too.
One way I prepared DS before was getting him to bed early so he gets adjusted to his new sked. He's late sleeper and late riser so we had to gradually adjust his bedtime and get him used to getting up early.

Kudos to you awesome moms. I didn't do preschool with my son and it was recommended for my daughter for socialization purposes. No prep- just "you are going to preschool- it will be fun". She had a best friend to go with her so it was all a smooth transition. Guess alot depends on the child's personality. Does sound like an awfully long day for a little one though. My kids were still taking naps after lunch at that age.

The teacher thing sounds like fun only mine would have insisted that the "I get to be the teacher now" continue in the real school world - LOL.
