I am so easy on this. and not very creative.. I send a sandwich, 2 fruits (one for snack), usually a little baggy of carrot sticks or celery sticks, a yogurt, a bag of chips and a little treat. I make kool aide and put it in a water bottle and freeze it over night then put it in a ziplog bag and pack that in with their lunch. The benifit of that is they have a cold drink, but it also keeps their lunch cold to. (I have boys and they eat alot)

When DD attended public school, they had microwaves the kids used to warm up their lunches (you may want to suggest the school buys a small one for this purpose). My DD didn't use it much as she prefers her stuff cold. You can also warm up the food in the morning and send it in a thermos.

My DD loved taking leftovers from supper, plus i always threw in a pudding, applesauce, milk, juice, cookies, raisins. Mini subs were always a great hit (made with hot dog buns), and when she got bored I would use a cookie cutter to make a sandwich into a fun shape.

I have three in school. I've always used a small ice pack to keep things cold. Capri Sun against the ice pack. Either PB&J or sometimes I'll buy lunchables. If it is something that really needs to stay cold, I defintely use the ice pack. It stays cold all day. I also have an insulated thermos that is small- perfect size for lunches. I cook raviolis or spagettios and put it in that and it stays warm. You could also cook mini pizza rolls and put them in there. The thermos keeps things hot or cold. Pudding (throw in a plastic spoon). I'm all about easy- I buy lots of things that are prepackaged. Not the cheapest things but saves time in the morning- especially since I'm up at 5:00 packing lunches and I'm out the door before they are. Also, Smuckers makes PB&J sandwiches that are premade. You keep them frozen till it's time to put it in the lunch. By the time it's time to eat, they are defrosted and they are pretty good.

sometimes I buy stuff in bulk and then repackage it into smaller snack sized bags. Like a big thing of those goldfish crackers is a hit at our house. I know my girls get tired of sandwiches all the time, so I try to do different stuff, like a meat and cheese day, string cheese is great for lunches!, wraps (tortillas), mini pizzas they can make (english muffins, a little sauce, shredded cheese and pepperoni). My girls love pickles and veggies and such.

I find unless they can't stand the school food, it's easier for them to have hot lunch!!

Because of all the food issues in our house, I have to pretty much make everything from scratch (no gluten or lactose for me, no corn for the dd, and b/c of my son's chemo no nitrates and no preservatives). That being said, I know my kids want to have the some kind of lunches that the other kids bring. So I make my sister take lunchables twice a week to work for lunch and save me the containers~then I 'remake' the lunchable using stuff that I know they can have. It's pretty easy actually, and very similar to the suggestions that lisa offerred. Their favorite is fajitas and they are actually very good cold. And because everything is assembled by them, I can even include lettuce and tomato (which the prepacked ones don't have) and nothing gets soggy because it's all assembled last minute, not in the morning. I also get her premade salad containers that grocery stores and fast food places sell side salads in. Toss your dressing in a snack size sandwich bag and you're good to go.

My only big recommendation is to invest in a boatload of plastic utensils. I got tired of losing flatware to the lunchroom. I swear some teacher has a whole set by now!
