Okay, I attached a word document with my template on it - I put in red where I put the blog header and the sidebar stuff... so if you just copy your stuff over the red parts I did, you should be good

I changed the background color of mine too from white to a creamy yellow color - Here is a cool site that will allow you to pick a color and it will tell you the hex code (html code) for that color http://navsurf.com/applets/colorpicker/

I have highlighted where I changed the color of the background in blue on the word doc

I also did not like the boxes around the colums, so I took those out too... I have hightlighted those changes in the word doc with green.
