Help ! camping menu .... ahhhhhhhhh

Ok i am totally buggin hehe I am going camping for my b-day.... " happy b-day to me " I am so far behind on putting things together that i think i am going to explode ouch ....
This will be the first camping trip that i am planing all on my own. Usually i just go where i am told and bring what i am told but this time it is all me. The only request from my little sis is that i don't make nasty stuff.... big help i know
So i think now would be a good time to share. Any thoughts what is your fav camp food. What things are easy to make and what would you stay away from. I have so many thoughts in my head right now that i cant hold onto one of them long enough to finish it. So i give this thought to you wonder full people. Please let me know how it comes out lol

Thank you much for your time

Sandwich bars with all the fixins and hot dogs and smores! Have a great BDay Jess!! Also pack lots of breakfast bars and oatmeal for breakfast and have a source for boiling water. You can make instant soups or whatever! Have fun!

I usually have a couple of marinated flank steaks to BBQ and the premade guacamole.

We used to call them Hobo Pies.

meat, (burger, ground turkey, cut up brats, whatever you want)
carrots, cut smallish
potatos, cut smallish
onions
peppers if you want
any other veggie that you like

a little butter, salt and pepper

mix it up, lay it all on one side of a big piece of tinfoil
fold it over a seal edges.

cook in the coals, on the edges of a fire (or on a grill rack) for about an hour (depends on the size of your veggies) turn it every now an and then.

I love these for car camping trips!

ash cakes are pretty different and cool too.

make up a very simple white bread dough (water, salt, yeast)
pat out flat pieces of dough about the size of your hand
clear a place in the fire, where there is a good bed of coals/embers but no flame
lay the dough right on the coals! flip!
brush off any ash, add jam or honey and enjoy!

(I spent a year as a backpacking/wilderness substance abuse counselor!

Well i sure can help i just got back from a 2 week camping trip up to northern ontario. (which was beautiful) There are these things called "Hobo pies" you can buy them at any store with camping stuff. what you do is butter 2 peices of bread (like you would a grilled cheese) then place the buttered side to the metal then fill them with any topings
pizza ones
fill with sause, cheese, pepperonies
pie ones
fill with your favorite pie filling Apple, cherry ect..
Or a simple grilled cheese
these are great for lunches or a bed time snack just place the maker in the fire till both sides are golder brown. (very easy)

TONES OF MARSHMELLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! these are the best around the camp fire!!

Meals are pretty simple if you have cooking like a stove or bbq, but if not you can cook any meat on a fire with a grill.

I have a small portable BBQ that i use as a camp stove. So yes i do have a place to cook.

Hobo pies we call them Tin foil dinners ... i almost forgot about that. They are one of the camping stables in this fam. Along with scones... and cook it on the fire night ( hotdogs and smores *yummy*)

Amy thanks for the reminder about the breakfast bars... I am thinking that i need to hit costco for the jumbo box of granola bars and fruit snacks.

This isn't a cooking idea, but we always use liquid soap instead of bar soap when camping - the bar soap get covered in grass and sand. Also, we use the liquid soap as shampoo and dishwashing detergent! Its great for when the dog decides to jump in the river then roll in the beach -- yucky!
