Help with photo gallery or blog?

You know I might have asked this before... but will ask again

I want a private photo gallery OR an easy to use blog to post my son's photos and my photographs for family and friends. I currently use Blogger and love that it is so easy to add photos through Hello, what I don't like is even though I changed the settings to ' Add your Blog to our listings' and selected NO..

any ideas? I considered Typepad and it said you were able to password protect a blog, correct?

any input would be fabu as I am not sending family pics anymore and they are screaming at me LOL

I just found Opendiary.com which allows private entries that you then can allow selected viewing with a password. It has a nice interface with Photobucket for uploads.

Dani - If Opendiary doesn't suit you, there are several more out there also. You mentioned typepad as an option, and yes, you can password protect any single page in typepad. But, remember typepad is not a free site. I think the cheapest plan they have is $4.95/month. Not bad, but if you are looking for a free site these are a few that I personally have used and found to be pretty good:
kodakgallery dot com - one of my favorites. It even has a comment and guestbook feature.
snapfish dot com
shutterfly dot com
photoworks dot com

They all require the viewer to enter a password to view the albums and of course they all will sell prints of any photos and ship them anywhere!

Hope this helps too!

Melanie

Ideally, you would just do your own.. the cost is comparable (many start at just $5.95) and you can do so much more than just blog.. you can keep your own FTP (kits/elements/fonts), create a photo gallery, blog, games, etc... Yes - they take a bit of know how to get started and setup.. but like all good things, doing it yourself has many rewards. I would recommend you look into this and not box yourself into just a blog host..

In the perfect world, Pesto might be right.... but not many of us have the time to create our own sites. I am also debating a blog like Dani mentioned, so am interested in hearing more quick and easy options too.

I agree Colleen.... the option of a "start from scratch" site, etc is not really an "option" for some who don't want to learn how to set it all up, etc.

I personally have my blog at typepad b/c it was quick and easy and HEY I enjoy having ONE LESS thing I had to monkey with.

And yes, Dani you can password protect the blog at typepad.... megan has a little one she is starting for summer vacation and is password protected for her friends to visit and access ONLY.

I have a typepad blog - the middle plan.. (all the plans give you unlimited photo albums) ... and I take all the photos for my daughters softball team. Because of the privacy issue with the internet, I have the whole album locked up with a password so that only the parents can see the photos unless they give the password out to someone else... The only thing about the photo album on typepad is that there is no way to make or exchange comments. You would need to have a full blog for that. The basic typepad blog only gives you one blog, but the middle plan lets you have up to three different blogs... so that is a good option if you want back and forth banter between your friends and family... and like Amy said.. all password protectable, for 8.95/month.

Another option you might look into is photoblogs.. google it.. I have never looked into them, but I know there are lots of blogs that are set up specifically for photos w/comments, etc. Don't know if password protect is option on them or not. I would think it probably is. I think one is called fotothing dot com.
