Unhappy My 2 YO has a monster under her bed!

Ahhhh - my DD has been up 2 nights in a row with "monster" dreams..

She says, "Monster under a bed" and she is even sleeping with me! She had me up at 4:30am this morning (and boy am I tired)... anyone else experience this and have any tips to share? My oldest DD very rarely and never really has had nightmares of any sort Poor little thing - so sad to see her scared like that.

monster spray

I read this on the internet years ago, and we used this tip with my kids. I think it is such a great idea.

We used "monster spray" Just get a can of room freshener (like you use in the bathroom) You can have the child help decorate the can (we never did this, and it still worked!) We sprayed under the bed, closets, etc. We told the kids the monsters hated the smell, and they'd go to another place where it was smelly. Monsters hate sweet flowery smells you know!! Hope this helps. My kids loved showing their dad all the places to spray. I think they actually even had fun, and they never complained about monsters again!

Let me know if this helps!

the only delima with that is are you reinforcing the "fact" that monster exist? that's one i still need to figure out.
i have heard that the spray has worked wonders!!

OMG, Amy! We're going through the SAME thing! Every night for like that last week, she's been waking up crying and saying that she had a bad dream (won't tell me of what though...lol...she's still a lot younger than Taylor...6 months or so???). She woke about 1:45am last night. I wish I knew what to do for her. I don't mind waking up to comfort her. She's really easy to comfort and within 1 minute of me going in her room she's kicking me out wanting to go back to sleep with her "sweet dreams" and "see you". LOL. But, I'm just patiently waiting hoping that it will end soon. How ironic that you're dealing with it too

:P

I like the monter spary idea...

We have also had talks with ds about Jesus, we told him that he is everywhere and he will protect him, We have a cross above his bead, we told him if he ever wonders where he is he can open up his eyes and see the cross and know that he is there to watch over him. We make sure to move the cross wherever we put the bed.
HTH,
Becky

SO far no monsters here (ds is 2 +4 months)...I was a mean mommy though and never gave him a night light so he isn't a bit afraid of the dark and doesn't even mind playing in the dark...kindof annoying sometimes like when we WANT to go to bed...hehe

Mine has always loved the dark too (no night light...door closed since birth while sleeping). She just loves to hide in the dark and jump out at us too...lol. So I know that the room being dark is not the issue. For us, I think it might be because her daddy left three weeks ago on a military obligation. He'll be gone until the end of November. I think it might be because of his departure and the fact that we've had so many changes over the last few months (we just moved to a new base) and she's having a difficult time adjusting maybe??? It would make sense, but I just wish I knew a way to make the bad dreams go away for her

None of my kids have ever had nightmares or terrors, and so when connor woke up about 10 months ago freaking out cause she was afraid of the 'spiders' i had no idea what to do -- she wouldn't even let me hold her. She was awake, but not all there. She has done this about 5 times, and it's always spiders. And it's not as if she has a FEAR of spiders, it's as if she see's hundreds of them arond her. She kept using her hand to push them away and was not wanting to be on top of the blanket that had flowers on it because i think she saw them as big spiders. I So we ended up on the floor with a plain blanket and she was fine. She had NO memeory of it in the morning. she actually was scraeaming out AHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHH -- (can't actually do it) but like jumpy ahhhhhhh's -- as if they were anywhere she went.

I tried to talk to her about it, but she just called me silly as if she really didn't remember -- she's a bug friendly kid too -- so i still haven't figured out where it came from.

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through this, it's tough, waiting and wondering at night if she'll wake up again.-- connor had 3 days in a row that she did it that first time -- and then again about 3 months later. She hasn't done it lately...

maybe take a water bottle and have her spray the monster poison under her bed to keep them away -- ???

Hope things are better for you tonight!
