Cheap toddler boy clothes???
I went to Target the other day to buy some play clothes for my DS who has grown out of his 18 month onsies, and I was VERY dissappointed! Everything was at least $8 or more and I guess I'm feeling really cheap right now, but I don't want to pay that much for play clothes that he may grow out of next month! I looked at my local Thrift store and resale shops, but they have very little boy clothes and almost none 18 & 24 month clothes. The 2T stufff seems too big because they are all Ts and he can still wear 18 month Ts (which I don't have and can't find either).
So I was wondering (without having to hit the mall or go store to store) does anyone know of anybody having a sale right now, or who has BOY clothes cheap?! I checked on ebay and placed a bid or two, but the shipping makes it almost not worth it (most are like $10-20 for shipping). Sigh, maybe I'm just too cheap!
Maybe I'll have to hit some garage sales, but they always seem to have girl stuff or bigger boy stuff. Is this an awkward age for clothes or what! Help!

I bought baby/toddler clothes at yardsales. there didn't seem to be as much in the 18 month size range available for either gender, let alone gender neutral which is what I wanted. if you are going to hit the yardsales i'd do it soon before they end for the season. At least here in the North East U.S. the yardsales are pretty much over due to the cold.
You could try ebay, but then you can't really see it before you buy. If you live near an outlet, you might find good deals there. In Reading Pa they used to have a section of town that was soley baby/toddler outlets. Now the baby/toddler stuff has started to move to the other outlet areas and it's not as concentrated in a quick small area to shop, but most of the outlets in Reading are half the normal ticket price.
I have friends that swear they can make baby/toddler clothes cheaper than buying them, but I don't have the ability with a sewing machine. Good luck.

Have you ever heard of freecycle.org? I posted this on a living on a budget thread because it is a fun way to find things you might need and share with others as they have need! How it works is people post things they are getting rid of. If you think you could use it, you reply and arrange to pick it up. It is that easy. If you need something, you can post and if people can help they respond, and the best part is it is all FREE! I thought of it because I just gave away some 18 mo boy clothes, and someone else just posted 18-24 mo boy clothes.... (looks like you are too far away from Albuquerque for that to help you!) But Freecycle has communities everywhere you should see if there is a group in your community.

I found that walmart is perfect for babies/toddlers. The clothes aren't as good quality, but the kids grow out of them so fast, they rarely get worn out. I got my DS2 fall play clothes in sept and got 1 outfit (sweatpants and sweatshirt), 4 pairs of long pants and 4 long sleeve shirts, plus socks and shoes for under $50. Come the winter holidays, he'll need new/bigger, but that's what the grandparents are for
As for the size thing, my DS is the same way. I got 2 pair of 18m sleepers and 2 pair 24m and the 18 month squish it toes and pull a little on his shoulders (he's 16 months) - but the 24m end up falling down and he walks on the ankles! Sheesh!

You are so right Synthea!
I went to Walmart today to get something and looked on a lark. Lo and behold they had tops for $2.88! That is what I'm talking about! They aren't perfect, but they will do, and that is what I'm looking for. I bought several in both sizes so that I would have a variety in case he grows again soon. I thought about the Freecycle thing, but you have to offer something first (which is totally valid) and I just don't have anything right now to donate.
Thanks for the ideas though! I wish we had more/better resale shops here. The one I go to has changed owners and now the prices are only a few $s off the original price of a new item, and I might as well buy new then, if I can find anything that is! And unfortunately my DS is the oldest of his "generation" in my family, so I'm always the hander downer but I never get handed down to! And in our squadron (my DH is a Air Force fighter pilot) all the other little ones are girls, so no hand me downs there.
But now I am happy I found some cheap clothes that he can wear for a few months anyway, and my wallet's happy too!

Yeah we used the resale shops, but they always had way more cute things for girls. I used walmart for play clothes, but I wasn't real happy with the quality once my boys got older and out of the toddler clothes. Then I moved over to Target. I do know that some of my local friends are selling things on ebay - their toddlers clothes, but I don't know their acct name or the prices. I am not sure that ebay would be the way to get cheap clothes, but more like cheaper options for the higher priced stuff, make sense? Anyway, glad you found something that will work for now. I never thought it would be so complicated to clothe my kids! I have similar problems with my girl - things are either too pricey, or too grown up! Sigh.

I buy tons of my kids clothes at Ross. I can get a 3 piece outfit (pants, shirt, jacket) for less than $10. I always check things over and look for the "first quality" tags. I love the deals I can get there.
