Thanks everyone, for your words of comfort. I am feeling more optimistic and will move forward and just face whatever the outcome is. I have learned a difficult lesson; backup, backup, backup...always backup.

OKay, now that I have fallen onto the floor at how much it would cost to recover your data I have to extend my sympathy. I hope you can recover your data and get some coverage to help defray the costs. I have nightmares about my EHD crashing everytime someone posts about theirs.

Last night and today we lost power so I was crawling around under the desk holding one of those candle lighting clicker things because I couldn't find the flashlight trying to flip the switch for my surge protectors.

I know that we should back up but how often and what is the question. I always back up my kits, other scrap stuff and pictures but I rarely, if ever, back up anything else. I need to break that habit quick.

I too will pray that you are able to recover the files and that some of the cost be covered under insurance

OH NO! Bad news today. I heard from the data recovery company and they couldn't recover even a byte of data. When the head crashed it hit the platen and wiped out all of the info. I'm sick all over again! Oh well, I guess this is a costly lesson for me to learn. Back up no matter what! In just 15 minutes of time while I had only one copy of my files to tranfer to my new computer it all went away! Boo hoo!

I am so sorry Colleen

My hard drive corrupted and crashed years ago and while I still use it, the My Documents folder was password protected and the password got corrupted so it's impossible to get into - so I lost all my pictures and files. I still use that hard drive but I back up pretty regularly now.

Well then you know how I feel Synthea. I just have to put it behind me. Each day gets a bit easier.
