Did anyone else get the worm?

Yesterday my computer got a worm (w32.blaster.worm). After a few minutes online I get a message that the system is shutting down because the remote procedure call (RPC) terminated. I downloaded a worm removal tool, but that didn't work. Luckily my brother has computer whiz co-workers. I'm trying something one of them did on his computer to overcome the problem. Hopefully it does the trick. If anybody else needs this info, let me know!

Aack, oh no, Kristi, I hope that little buggar gets rooted out before any damage is done!! I'm downloading the patch now, and going to back up all my stuff (again - I swear I have 50 CDs with the same stuff....) next! THANKS for the heads-up!

Not yet....thank goodness.

But I'm trying to download the patch and it's taking forever! What should take under a minute has taken over 30 minutes and I'm only at 17%n complete. I'll probably get the worm while I'm downloading the fix!

I'm sorry to hear you got the worm....but I'm glad you got it sorted out. I hope there was no permanent damage done.

Unhappy

Yep, I got the worm. I didn't update when I was suppose to, ggggrrr, so I went and downloaded 7.9 MB worth of Windows updates from the Microsoft website. I am hoping that worked! So far, so good. (fingers and toes crossed!!!) Now I am downloading an update to my virus scan!

When I downloaded the patch and the updates, it took an hour and a half. I was started to get alarmed, but it finally got finished!

No worm here. I had all of my critical updates, thank goodness. I usually put off that sort of thing.

Do I understand correctly theat Windows 98 users do not have to worry about the worm? It is not listed on microsoft as one of the ones infected..

From what I have read......Win98 and WinME users are safe....BUT DONT QUOTE ME ON THAT!!! I didnt see either listed at Microsoft or CNets web sites.

If anyone hasnt done a Windows Update .....they need to soon!! From what I have read, come saturday, we may have a hard time logging on to that web site, since this "worm" will cause so many systems to "jam" traffic to that site.

Just a friendly word of advice!
