Question Help me plan a vacation.... :)

Hi all! My dh and I would like to take a trip, no kids, no school, no work, just a few days off for once. He got a bonus that was unexpected, and with him in pre-nursing and starting nursing school in the fall, who knows when this could ever happen.... So- where would you go? Why? Have you been there before? We are leaving from Seattle, in March.... Places we are considering-
- Hawaii
-Mexico
-Cape Hatteras, NC (not sure if it is warm enough there in March???)

Any other ideas? I am thinking lazy on the beach...

NC would not be warm for lying on the beach weather in March... JMO

I would go to Hawaii, but not sure what it would be like in March.

My dream spot would be Australia! I've ALWAYS wanted to go there. We wanted to go for our honeymoon, but we wasted our 10+ grand we saved on a Wedding for 250 unappreciative family members. But it was the best Dang party we'll ever throw!!! Still sucks we coulda' had a down pymt on a house and gone to Australia. But DH promises me I'll get to go some day.

I told him by then, he'll have to hash out some serious dough: as I've added Europe(all over) & Scotland, Ireland, & Norway to the list now!!!!

Where ever you go, Have a wonderful time and a lot of R&R!!!

We just got back from a trip and if you are wanting fun in the sun, the beaches in Cancun and Cozumel are beautiful...and the water is so crystal clear.

IMO - The beach aspect is much better in Mexico (at these two locations).

However, I have been to Hawaii also and it is a beautiful place as well. Definately would not stay in Honolulu...would go to either Maui or Kauai for a less commercialized experience.

Hope you have a great vacation whatever you choose!

Elizabeth

Exclamation Arizona!!!

Thanks guys!
Well, I just booked a trip to- Arizona!! While we wanna do a really nice beach vacation, with only a few days that we can get away and we do not want to be broke, we talked about other trips we have always wanted to do. Since we both used to work for Nordstrom, we used to hear the great shopping stories from the Scottsdale Last Chance store.... So we can do that, lay by the pool, swim, go see the Grand canyon, hit a Mariner's Spring Training game.... We will stay in Tempe....

Great choice - - Arizona in March is perfect and there is so much to do in the Phoenix metropolitatn area!! Think about going to the Desert Botanical Garden since it will be spring. You mentioned spring training, so if you like baseball then it may be worth it to take a peak at Bankone Ballpark. You can have a drink at Front Row restaurant overlooking the playing field - - the ballpark was the first to have a retractable roof and there is a swimming pool that can ber rented for games Also, a hike in South Mountain Park in the spring could be pretty nice. There are so many great places to eat as well - - if you are looking for an awesome dining experience, try T. Cook's at the the Royal Palms Resort - - you will need a reservation though.

Anyway - - have fun!!

Sindea, I just saw this thread and thought I'd offer a few other things in AZ. I lived in Phoenix/Scottsdale for 13 years....(I'll be there in March as well, visiting my mom who lives there 4 months every winter)
Spring Training games are great fun - good choice
If you're doing the Grand Canyon, try to make one of your routes through Sedona AZ - and take Hwy 83?? up through Oak Creek Canyon - spectacular scenery! You'll recognize Sedona as it's a much photographed part of the world - if you have time and $ take a jeep tour there, they will get you out in the red rocks for even better sights! Also in that area, for the scenic way back to Phoenix, a trip through Jerome AZ is always fun, very artsy quaint community - fun shopping.
In Metro Phoenix, if you've never been out west and have small kids, a trip to Rawhide, very touristy, but fun for the kids. A unique restaurant up in Carefree Az would be Pinnacle Peak Patio (talk the hubby into wearing a tie - they'll cut it off at the door) another unique restaurant. Then, for VERY LAID BACK atmosphere, and if you like to have a few beers, try to find Greasewood Flats. It's a fun "bar" which is outside and very "western" - wonderful to enjoy AZ in March. (if you go early, it's OK for families) If you want to take in some of the wonderful 5 star resorts, I'd recommend going to Hyatt at Gainey Ranch. That resort is just spectacular to just go walk around the grounds, have a coffee or wine in the bar. (my hubby proposed to me there at one of the Italian restaurants) AZ sure does resorts the best I've ever seen. For wonderful city views, The Pointe at(not Squaw Peak, nor SOuth Mountain - I can't for the life of me remember the name of it (our wedding night was spent there - Tapitio Cliffs??)- off 7th Street) the resort sits up on top of a Mountain (well, Phoenix type mountain) and the views are spectacular - again, enjoy a dessert or wine or something up there - or just go take a look! In downtown Phoenix there is a restaurant which sits on top of one of the high rises, and goes around - also great views. SOrry some of this is kind of vague - my memory just went blank on the names. I just thought I'd steer you in some unique to the area sights, and so you don't end up at Applebee's . A lot has changed in the 5 years since I've lived there, but I'm sure what I've mentioned will still be there. PM if you're looking for any more ideas. If you're staying in Tempe, you'll be close to LOTS of things and freeways to get you anywhere. Old Town Scottsdale has very unique shopping as well. It's just all so beautiful - I miss all the beauty (don't miss the traffic) Have a great trip, I'll look forward to your LO's from the trip!
