DIP 9 - Texturizer

Is there any way to add other textures to the DIP texturizer? I've figured out how to add photo & art strokes, as well as designer edges (thanks to Mary's tutorial on Proud to use picture it), but I just can't figure this one out! I've tried adding textures to the texture file and it doesn't do anything. Any idea's?

Yvette

I don't know how to add textures but I have added stamps. I have tried to add photo and art strokes with no luck. Would you mind explaining how it is done? Thanks

Hi Kim,

The file structure for DIP9 is as follows:
Microsoft picture it! 9
Pi files
Paint
Brushes
under brushes are both ARTSTROK & PHOSTROKE

Create a PNG of the item (ribbon, fibre, whatever), Save to the PHOSTROK file, them save the item as a BMP and save to the same. Name both item the same, just different ext. Make a copy of one of the existing TXT files that will match up (ie - if the item had a begining and an end pice then use the column or the firehose, otherwise I used the barbwire for a ribbon). double click the copy of the TXT file and where it has the name of the original item replace with the name of your files (Display Name, thumbnail file name (BMP), brush file name (PNG). Rename the TXT file to match your new PNG & BMP file names. Artstroke is virtually the same, only the ARTSTROK file (of course!) and you need 1 BMP file and 3 PNG files showing the different lengths of the stroke (look in the ARTSTROK file, you'll see what I mean). THe TXT file is the same but you need to put in the 3 different PNG files as well as the BMP. Hope this helps - I think you use DIP7 (judging from your tutorials!) so I hope it is the same.

As far as size of the files, I really can't remember! If you open one of the existing files it should give you the correct dimensions, etc.

Thanks Yvette. It worked. In DIP7, the photostroke and artstroke files in in the "Paint" folder. I looked at the texture files and they are actually made up of varying shades of grey squares. I'll play around and see what I can come up with.

Yvette, I couldn't work out new textures BUT I did make new brushes to use in Freehand Painting. Instructions below for anyone who wants them:

Open a new canvas and resize to 96 x 96 pixels
Insert Shape>square>no line and resize to fit canvas
Change colour to medium/dark grey.
Now you can do lots of things to make your brush.
1. Eye Candy Weave
2. Freehand draw with a lighter grey
3. Add shapes and colour lighter grey. In attached sample I used the heart shape.
When done, save as png in the bushes folder.

To use:
Open new canvas and size to suit.
Insert shape>no line>resize to fit canvas
Effects>Paintbrush>Freehand
Select colour and brush size.
Customise paint settings. I chose square.
Click a paint texture and choose the new brush you made.
Now just paint over the whole canvas.
Now add texture if you like.
I used Bumps and Craters at 100% coverage.

Here's a sample of what you can do.

Oh, and you don't have to stick with 96 pixels square either. I did that size cause one of the originals was that size but it may look too small on a larger background. I did another one at 200pixels and it worked fine. The brush size was larger which is good for filling in those 12x12" backgrounds.
