Photo corner - help!

I tried following the instructions Shelleyrae had in her 2/20/03 post with regard to making a bronze photo corner, but I'm running into problems. On a blank canvas, I'm doing the following: Insert>Shape>Triangle ... Marquee tool in a circle shape... Adjust Marquee and trace a circle shape on the triangle... done... delete - a 1/2 circle is cut out of the triangle - CNTRL +D to duplicate the triangle... decrease top triangle, position on top of larger bottom triangle...group them...Effects>Filters>Metal: Bas Relief.

My problems: (1) the left side of the smaller, inner triangle is invisible; (2) my cut-out circular shape doesn't line up between the two triangles; (3) Under Metal: Bas Relief, I have no option under Change Advanced Options to color my triangle bronze - I only have a limited number of foreground/background colors.

Can someone tell me where I am going wrong?

Thanks so much for any help!

Andrea C.

Hi ..me again ..lol

1) the left side of the smaller, inner triangle is invisible

Not exactly sure what you mean here unless its after you have applied the bas metal relief effect in which case try changing the light direction from the drop down menu til it is visible.

(2) my cut-out circular shape doesn't line up between the two triangles;

Again not sure what you mean unless you mean it looks as if the cutout is unevenly positioned - can you show me an example?

(3) Under Metal: Bas Relief, I have no option under Change Advanced Options to color my triangle bronze - I only have a limited number of foreground/background colors.

To get teh bronze effect you change teh foreground and background colours ..I cant remember the specifics of which color now - couldnt even find teh original post ..but I think its an orange shade for the top and brown for teh bottom. You may just have to experiment.

Hope that much helps

Hi! Good news - I "found" the left side of my triangle - you were right, I just had to adjust the light. I also was able to get it to a bronze color by using brown/orange colors and I also figured out how to align my circle cut-outs (I was using too much of the circle cut-out - almost 1/2 of a circle - instead of just cutting out a slight section of circle - does this make any sense??)

Thanks so much!

OK - I think I still need help with this. I made the photo corner on a 1x1 canvas (because I figured that would be the approximate size if I wanted to use it on a 12x12 layout) at 300 resolution. But it looks blurry to me. Is there a way I can attach it here so that someone can view it and tell me if it's the way it's supposed to look?? Thanks for any help!

Hi Andy
Make sure that you are viewing the canvas at 100% and see if it is still fuzzy.
The canvas automatically defaults to fill the worspace so you may find that you are actually viewing at a size of way past 100% causing the problem.
If that is not the problem let me know

Hi Shelleyrae,

I enlarged my canvas to 100% and it's still blurry. I then started over and inserted my photo corner and somebody else's photo corner (actually, I used a photo corner made by Joyce @ SBB - don't know her last name??) into my layout just to see the difference. First of all, Joyce's is a heck of a lot bigger than mine (when I first insert them, mine looks like a speck compared to hers). Then I zoomed in at 100% and mine is still blurry, while hers is not.

Should I have created it on a bigger canvas? (Also, when I create an element using Insert>Shape, do I change the line thickness to "none"? I used the default line thickness for my photo corner).

Unhappy Still need photo corner help

I can't believe that I can't make the simplest thing - a photo corner. Is it my canvas size?

HI Andy

First the easy question
" Also, when I create an element using Insert>Shape, do I change the line thickness to "none"? I used the default line thickness for my photo corner)."

>>I almost always delete the line unless the line is part of the design.

Now the harder one. Its not easy to answer without knowing exactly what you are doing.

I had a quick try just making a plain one and it turned out fine. No fuzziness or anything.
Try this
File>new then set at 300dpi and 2" x2"
Insert > Shape> triangle,
Format > Resize Object to fit canvas> stretch to fit
Remove line
Duplcate triangle ..drag smaller than original (change its colour if necessary so you can see what you are doing)
Group triangles
Effects>Filters>All Filters >Metal:Bas Relief
colour as desired - change light position if needed.
Done

Now when I have finished those steps it looks fine to me and when I put it on a 12 x12 canvas it still looks fine

Try the above and then let me know if you are still having problems. If you can get that to work you can then make whatever changes eg the half circle cut outs in te appropriate place.
