My computer has been really slow lately opening up anything in dip

I have a new laptop Intel centrino and lately my computer has been so slow...... Everytime I try to open up a photo or a scrap page it takes a minute or more to open it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Have you noticed it doing the same things in other applications? It sounds to me like you may want to defrag your harddrive.

THanks Fran!!

I ran the disk defragmenter, I have never done this before. I had to go to the help menu ti get the steps, but it works. My computer does not seem to be so sluggish. How often should I do this?

I've never been able to find a specific recommendation for this one probably because everyone uses their computer differently.

Usually you can hear your hard drive 'crunching' or working harder when it needs to be defragged. I did mine last night too because I heard the crunching.

Since we work on large files that we tend to open and close and save often, our harddrives will probably need to be defragged more often then the average user.

sorry I can't be more specific!

I just updated my Norton to the new version and have found this happening for me as well... it does a background scan of ANY file I open in DIP or save.... taking alot more time on anything that I am working on.
I have found that I have to disable Norton, or the file scanning, while I am working on it...(esp since everything is scanned before I save it or download it)....and it runs much faster!

Hi Becky
My personal recommendation is to defrag once a month, run clean disk and scan disk at least once a week. If you are online a lot then use clean disk twice a week.

Norton is a pain with DIP ..always disable the auto file scan before working in DIP

Does disableing Norton affect the performance of dip?

If it does I did not know that.
