dumb question about background colour

Ok I know there are no dumb questions...just dumb..... well you get the point : )

I recently got a copy of DIP 9...Had been using Picture it and then picture it platinum, then moved over to photoshop where I have loved being recently.

Through a friend I got a copy of DIP 9 and opened it to try to pull together a layout... I wanted to use the paint can to fill in the background a solid colour to start playing with and it wouldnt let me. Do I have to make a rectangle the entire size of the background and then fill it with my colour choice for it to work?

One other question. My SIL also got a copy and made a page recently ( I am guessing it was like a plopper from DIP) (a family tree thing). Her photos and some of the little graphics showed up fine, but the leaves on the tree, etc are very pixelated....any idea why?

Thanks in advance!
Carole

Hi, Carole. I can answer question #1. You do have to make a rectangle the size of the page to fill it with color. It's kind of silly, but not too hard. You can insert a shape, then use format / resize object to fit canvas / stretch to fit. And be sure to remove the line around the box. (That part irritates me a bit.)

For question #2, did she get the plopper out of the gallery? I'm just guessing here, but I wonder if it was too small, and she resized it, which resulted in the pixilated look. I've used other things from the gallery, and they showed up fine.

HTH.

Hi Carole
The blank page that you open in DIp is a transparent canvas. There si nothing on it until you place something on it such as a shape. For some getting started ideas check the tutorial section ..most of what DIP7 has applies to DIP9 as well.
As for the second question she may have just resized it too large.
