I Found the Answer to Digital Imaging Taking Forever to Open up!

Hi there, my name is Kathy and I am knew to this forum and great website. I stumbled upon it the other day when I was Googling the words, "Digital Imaging opening files takes so long". That search landed me on this site and I saw that a few people were struggling with waiting and waiting for files to open up in The Digital Imaging Program. Mine came with Publisher and I love all the things I can do with my photos in the program.

I didn't find any answers but read a few posts about the problem. I vowed I was not going to give up until I figured it out and finally I found the answer. This is what I did, step by step:

1.) Go to your computer's desktop

2.) Double click on My Computer

3.) Double click on My Documents and then double click on My Pictures (or wherever you keep your photo files).

4.) Continue to your files and find the one you want to work on.
(I keep mine in folders so I go to the folder, double click on it and then the photos I have saved in that folder open up).

5.) Once you find the one you want to open, right click and take your mouse to the words "open with".

6.) When you do that, a box comes up on the side that has programs for you to select from. My Digital Imaging Program is called Picture It! 9 and I just left click on that and whaaaaala - the photo opens right up in Digital Imaging.
I was so excited when this worked and can't believe I found the answer to the waiting and waiting and waiting!

Now, if anyone can find a way to save the files in a quicker amount of time, I would be very grateful! Please let me know if this works for you, it literally has saved me hours of time!

Hi and thanks
Dag and drop straight from IE wndow works well too. For Picture It! versions - it also runs quicj=ker if you dont keep much in my My Pictures folder but instead in another folder.

(PS. moved this to the DIP/PictureIt forum)

The My Pictures folder shouldn't be used for storing too many pictures. It is especially important not to have too many sub-folders in there. The more you have in My Pictures, the slower programs work and it's not just confined to DIS. It's much better to make a new folder on C drive and store your pics in there.

Kim, I didn't know that. My Pictures is stuffed full on my computer, but now I'm going to try your suggestion. Thanks.
