Oh yes...you can definitely still use it. I recently installed it on my reformatted desktop and my laptop. As a DIP user since day one (I must have at least four different editions) I would be absolutely lost without it. Why they decided to no longer support it is beyond me. I love the program!

they are no longer supporting it because most of the features are already available in the other products they have (purchased from other vendors).. including the native paint product in Vista.

I wouldn't be surprised to find an announcement of a new Paint software from them in the near future..

There are so many other great programs out there that I would recommend trying.. but you'll get free support through 2010 anyway... just no feature upgrades.

I have heard that too, Pesto - but those who have Vista have said there is nothing that comes close to Digital Image in the edting software included with Vista

I do hope they come out with something at some point.

Agreed. We installed Vista on one computer when it came out and I played around with its photo editing. What a waste of time! I get the equivalent "features" when I upload photos to be printed at Sam's or Costco. I was pretty ticked that Microsoft considered this to be an adequate replacement for DIS.

I have been playing around with GIMP (it's free), but I still mostly prefer DIS. GIMP has better shadow management, so that's nice for digiscrapping. I also like the way I can open and use .PSD templates in GIMP, but DIS is way better for quick photo editing. I would like to be competent in the replacement software before DIS stops working and I'm up a creek. I figure I have quite a few more years of happy DIP/DISing ahead of me before it won't work with a newer operating system.

Come to think of it, I should have tried installing it on the Vista computer. The whole family hated it so thoroughly that we wiped the hard drive and started over with Windows XP, which means I can't try that now. DIS might work just fine in Vista.

The website says "Customers will receive product support for up to three years from purchase date or through April 30, 2010" If you want to move to soemthing new, I'd say to just check out all the trials and see which you like best.

I don't know much about Digital Image, but I love Paint Shop Pro the most.

Paint.NET - free!
GIMP - free!
Paint Shop Pro - free trial
PhotoImpact - free trial
Photoshop Elements - free trial
Photoshop - free trial

The beta expired early!!!! Not sure when but today is the 8th and it is gone....

So I am going to try the free version..... It looks like the reviews were very good on the ACDSee Photo Editor 2008....
