Microsoft is giving up on DIS?!

I suppose this is old news. I had the bright idea to visit Microsoft's site to learn more about using my software, particularly using plugins from other vendors with it. I found that they have discontinued the software and will no longer be offering support as of April 30, 2010.

Sure, that's a way off, but I am bummed. I have been planning to get Photoshop before I graduate college in a few years. I guess now I'm commited to learning another piece of software. Grrr!

I got Photoshop Elements after using DIP10 for a couple of years and it wasn't as hard to get the hang of as I feared. One thing I did before the purchase was to use some PSE tutorials in DIP to help me understand how the different terms that are used cross over.

Just because it is discontinued doesn't mean you can't keep using it for many years to come. If you have DIS10 Suite, 2006 Suite or the Anniversary edition you can use them in Vista also. No reason to give up on a good program if it does all that you need it to.

I know I can keep using it, but I'm sad to see that it won't be out there for other Adobe impaired folks. I agree that it will be easier to adapt to different software now that I've successfully made pages with DIS. I had PSE for 2 years and faithfully tried tutorials for all the good it did me. Now, when I scan PSE tuts in magazines, I realize that I'm understanding a lot more thanks to my DIS experience. I just wanted to moan about it here where people could commiserate. Thanks for letting me lament my lot in life!

You will find ( despite the blaphsemy lol) that if you are comfortable in DIP switching to PSe or even PS wont be as hard as you think - its just a slightly different headspace

It is unfortunate for digiscrappers, especially newer ones who may be intimidated by Adobe, that Microsoft is retiring this products. And now that there are so many wonderful learning resources out there now for it. When I started out there were only a couple of good sites with DIP tutorials. But it's true you can keep using it if you love it, and also the leap from DIP to PSE won't be quite so bad.

I was really sad about this too. I teach digital scrapbooking classes locally and most of my students are extremely intimidated by 1) the price tag of PS and 2) the learning curve. I have 2 students that have been regulars for the last 2 years and in the past 6 months I introduced them to Photoshop. They were surprised to see how easy it was to merge into PS. They still have some hang ups but the terms and similiar and the concept is similar.

I teach both programs but was really sad when DIS Anniversary came out and then at CES in Las Vegas, when I asked, I was informed by Microsoft that they were doing away with the DIP'/S's. As a teacher I'm sad about that. I know from experience that students feel more successful, quicker, with DIP/S than they do with PS.

I think it's an oversite on Microsofts part to nix the program rather than invest in making changes to it. But who knows what goes on in their heads! ROFL!
