Digital Image Suite 6 Question

Hi - I understand that this is a Digital Image Pro forum, but I cant find one targeted at Digital Image Suite, so I thought I'd ask here. If anyone can direct me to a Digital Image Suite forum, I'll be happy to go there. Anyway, here's my question. I was reading an article on MSN published by a guy from PC World that showed you how to put some really neat effects in a digital image. I thought that I'd like to try it, but his instructions were aimed at Corel's Paint Shop Pro, and I couldnt figure how to translate them so I could do it in Digital Image Suite - or even IF I could do it. Can anyone help? I've put a link to the article below. Thanks in advance

Colin

DIP and DIS are the one and the same program.. just the DIS is a newer version (model)

I'd have to play to see if Icould get it work in DIS it's worth a try..some of the buttons in DIS are differen than in PSP but usually you can achieve the same look with a little tweaking

Yes, thats what I thought - but I'm kinda a newbie using the software, and I didnt understand some of the terminology that the guy used. If you could even give me some pointers, I dont mind experimenting - I like fooling around with the software. So even if you cant make it do exactly what he did with the Corel program, if you can explain some of the concepts to me I'd br grateful. For example, I know who to make the 3 copies of the picture. I know how to sharpen and apply the blur to the copies. I dont know how to flatten them out so they are 'transparent' though if you know what I mean. When I flatten them, the one on top is the only one that shows. If you want me to ask some specific questions, about the Corel vocabulary, I can. Thanks again

I'd probably take the easy road and use AFX Dreamy Photo plugin.
Alternatively, I'd use the marquee tool to select the flowers then invert to have the background selected and then try a gaussian blurr on it.

Unfortunately DIS doenst have blend modes in the same way that Photohsop or PSP does and for that particular task they rae fairly essential however try this as an approximate and you can tweak
Choose a photo
Make a duplicate so there are 2 in the stack (2 of the same pic on top of each other)
Apply Gausian Blur to the top layer A value of about 5- 7 should work
On teh same layer choose Effects> Filters> Ink Outlines and apply - go to Change Advanced Options and increase the transparency to about 60 and choose Ok
Then go to Effects> transparency> Gradual and choose the Circular gradient - Done
Now make a duplicate of the bottom (original picture) and drag it to the top of the stack - Effects> Transparency> Even
Decrease the transparency to suit -prob somewhere between 40 and 70%

You can fiddle with all these parameters of course
HTH - feel free to ask if you have any questions

Shelleyrae,
Thank you for your help. I am certainly getting somewhere. However, I still have a couple of questions. I dont have Ink Outlines as an option in my Filters. Is that a plugin, or something added later than DI 2006? I used one of the other options instead. Secondly, and I think this is more important, I cant figure how to get to 'Change Advanced Options', so I cant apply the transparency you suggers. Can you help? I really appreciate the time, and I understand that the effects may not be the same as Corel, but I'm kinda learning here, and the software has been great for the major thing I want to do - which is normalize underwater shots - I have some really neat shots of turtles and stingrays, so I would like to try to get more proficient with this software. Again, thanks for your help

Colin

No problem Colin
Do you have Digital Image Suite 2006 or Standard 2006. Standard is far more limited and wont have the Filter.
If it is Suite you have then you can find it under Efects> Filters> All Filters and scroll through the choices.
Let me know how you go

Yes, got it now - didnt realize there were so many filters, I only thought the ones in the drop down menu were available. That looks pretty good - as you say I'll experiment a bit. Thanks again for your help. I'll take a look thru the forum for other tips, but I'm sure I'll have other questions.
