Torn Paper - can a DIPper do it?

Shelleyrae, Kimlizzy, and all the other DIP goddesses....

Is it possible to get a realistic torn paper look with DIP? I've snagged several torn paper freebies from around the digicommunity recently - the best being from Redju, her torn paper elements. I was SO EXCITED because they were PNG files and I thought I could just fill the black area with a paper and the white tear detail would stay.

But, since the tear detail isn't a seperate layer, the whole thing fills in and looks wrong. Any ideas?? Thanks bunches.

I have DIS, which is supposed to be DIP and some other stuff. Do you have a magic wand? If you do, select the black with the wand, then fill it.

If you have already done that and it didn't work, highlight the black with the wand and try deleting the black and using it as an overlay. The other option would be to copy the image, the reduce the top one, fill it with your image and blend it. Softening the edges often does really well with this method. If none of that works, let me know, and I'll play with it some more

Ya - as Susan suggests
Use teh magic wand to select the black area then go to Edit> Cut> Edit Paste so its on a new layer.
Drag it underneath the tear
Fill the black area with the paper/color of your choice
That work?

You can also try the method in the Torn Tag Tutorial. Experiment with different filters to get the look you want.

I finally got the magic wand to work. After more than a year with this program I see I still have a LOT to learn. I was able to fill the tear templates and I'll satisfy myself with that - for now.

Thanks everyone! You're the best!
