Creating a Warp/curved effect?

Hi, I am new here and have been using DIP for about 1 1/2 years mostly for calendars at the holidays, but in the last 6 mos. I have been doing more with actual scrapping. I have seen several LO's with curved edges that I love (like a photo pinned in the middle with ends curved up and curved down page corners). But I have not been happy with my attempts to create that same look. Does anyone know how I can do this look with DIP? I have seen that other programs have warp effect, but not DIP - otherwise I have been happy with it.

Thanks so much for any ideas,

Kathy

This is an area I haven't gotten stellar results in either, but they've been fair. Below are a couple of examples...

1: After matting and grouping the photo and mat together, hit Effects>Distort>2nd left option>slider set to -4. Then I used TouchUp>Other>Dodge and Burn> settings:8 and 0 stroked across the highest curve, and settings -8 and 0 stroked once or twice only in the deeper curve (large brush size). Then shadow the whole thing.

2: After matting and grouping the photo and mat together, hit Effects>Skew>drag left handle slightly upwards. Then repeat same Distort option above, but using the first left distort option, set at -11. Same Dodge & Burn and shadowing.

3: Use your marquee tool to cut out the corner you wish, Edit CUT> Edit Paste>Flip Horizontal. Now use your rotate arrow and arrow keys to nudge it a tiny bit into place. You should now Fill with white or whatever your mat color is. Then Distort Brush> Shrink> and just play with your brush size, reset and stroke placement to gt the bend where you want it. The Dodge and burn as needed, highlighting on the upper most and burning on the deeper curves. Shadow and done.

It sounds involved, but really isn't too bad once you get the hang of it. Hope this helps!!

We ahve a tutorial here on folding corners in DIp that should help also
http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/a-tut...ticle_602.html

To create curved pics it takes a bit of fiddling but its possible. Dip has the dsitort feature instead of Warp (Effects> Distort) Not as much control but still possible to work with.
Choose a photo, duplicate it - fill the bottom photo with solid black (Effects> Fill with color or texture> black
Choose the top photo and Effects> Distort - choose the FishEye and reduce the slide to the left to about -15 (thats minus 15) or what ever suits. Click Ok to apply.
Select the black shape and choose TouchUp> Blue> Gaussian Blur. Increase the slider until you get the effect of the corners lifting up. Apply.
Now you can fiddle a bit (move the photo up a little or resize eth shadow slightly to get the look that you are happy with. You can also use your dodge and burn brush.
Ive attached a rough example of what i mean

Thanks!

Thanks for your steps. I also tried my own. I kept the sample I made with instructions just in case I forgot what I did! (I am suffering from preggo brain)
. Lately though, I just grab the one I did, ungroup it and change the photo. I did roughly the same curve with a more vertical photo so I can work with the two.

I have never used the Dodge and Burn tool. Can someone tell me more?

Great job with that! Thanks for sharing!

The dodge and burn tool is used for lightening specific areas or darkening specific areas, in digital scrapping often to create dimension on an object

The second half of this tutorial here shows it in use - though several of the other tutorials also use it http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/a-tut...icle_155.shtml

If you are interested in writing up your tutorial in a MSWord document with your sample I'd love to host it on the site here
