Need Help with Plug-in filters

Hi,

I've been making many of my own elements in DIS. I've used the preprogrammed filters in the program and like them. However, I notice a lot of people use plug in filters. I've downloaded a few, unzipped them and understand how to use open them and apply etc.

What I'm confused about are the more popular plug ins. For example, it seems that every where I read, people speak highly of Alien Skin and Eye Candy. However, I can not verify if these programs are compatible with DIP/DIS. Also, it seems that many people in the PSE world use "actions" and get a lot of them from the Atomic cupcake site. Does anyone know if these are compatible with DIP/DIS?

I'm most interested in 2 features--things that will make something look like it has glass and things that look like metal.

Thanks so much,
Melissa

Hi Melissa,
Alienskin (EyeCandy) Filters do work in Digital Image Pro. Most photoshop filters do work in DIP with a few exceptions. Actions however only work in photoshop and photoshop elements. As far as glass and metal, AlienSkin has some outstanding filters in the Impact collection for glass and for metals.

HTH,
LaWanna

atomic cupcake sells a membership to a large collection of photoshop actions - they will NOT work with any version of DIP. The eyecandy filters do work and they create some wonderful effects.

Hi,

Thank you so much. That answers my questions about Atomic Cupcake. I guess I thought "actions" were simply a series of filters that created one effect---but perhaps I'm wrong.

I've been looking at the Alienskin/Eyecandy filters (I think they are the same company). It would appear that they are about 100 dollars. Do you know if there are any free trials so you can see if you like them before you invest 100?

Thanks again for your help.

Before I purchased my Alienskin filters, I went to the website and downloaded their free trial versions. I fell in love the filters and purchased them after my trial expired. Check the alienskin website for the free trials.

Hi,

I'm having some troubles. I downloaded some free trials of Alien Skin--thanks for the suggestion.. Everytime I go to change the plug in folders, it keeps giving me another Alien Skin filter (one I believe that came with this version of DIS) and it won't let me change. I can only get some darn "edges" option even after I click on the folder, like "glass' that I want. It then sends me this message:

http://www.alienskin.com/upgrades/up...pictureit.html

I'm trying to get rid of this edges Alienskin program, but I can't find it!!! Since it I didn't download it. Any suggestions???

The "edges" thing you see is the freebie Alienskin Splat filter that comes with DIP. It shows up no matter what plugin you are using because it is in the Plugin folder within DIP's program files. Firstly, how did you set up your plugins? Did you put them into the DIP plugin folder or did you make a separate folder on your hard drive to put them in?

I prefer to make a separate folder because if you ever have to uninstall/reinstall DIP you will have to reinstall all of your plugins if you had installed them into DIP's plugin folder. If they are in a separate folder on your HD you won't have to reinstall them.

I also make a new folder for every plugin within the main plugin folder. If you install every plugin into the one folder it gets confusing which plugin you are actually using. You will end up with one huge long list of plugin filters and unless you know the name of every filter from each plugin it can get confusing as to which one you are using especially when more than one plugin has the same name for one of the filters within it.

If you have set up your plugins in separate folders you can just make a new folder for the Edges filter and move it into there. That way it won't show up with each other plugin.

If you don't want it at all you can delete it. Right click on the Start button and select Explore. Go to C:Program Files and locate the DIP folder. You will find the plugin folder listed there. Click on that and you will see the Edges filter file. Right click on it and delete it.

Lets say you want to use the Alienskin Impact plugins. Go to Effects/plugins/change plugin folder. Select the Impact folder. Each filter from Impact should now be listed on the left. Click on "Glass" then click on "Launch plugin". You should now be taken to the Glass filter with all the options.

As for that message you got: That's news to me. I never heard about any "picture it promotion" and I've always been able to use Alienskin plugins in DIP 7, DIP 10 and DIS 2006.
