Correct settings for getting pics printed?

When I download my pictures from my camera and make some changes, resave it as a JPEG and bring it to Walmart/Sams, etc, sometimes some of the picture gets cut off when the print it. I have even created a new project, changed the size to 4x6, inserted the picture, added some embellishments, saved it as a JPEG. If I print it at home, all is ok, but when I bring it to an outside source, sometimes not the entire picture shows up. Should I be doing something special to insure everything gets printed?

thanks,

Firstly digital photos are not a standard size whereas film photos are a standard 4x6 proportion (1200x1800 pixels), digital photos are slightly larger than that but not evenly - say 1222x 1811px. Therefore when you take them to be processed you need to trim them first otherwise the processor will trim without regard for the image.
You do need to create a new canvas at 6x4 for your photo however it also depends on where you are having them printed - speak to your regular processor and ask if there is a need for margins or if because they are digital the machine is automatically cropping the photo and then enlarging to fit regardless of the original size.
