Canvas size won't change??

I am trying to make a custom canvas size of 344x88 pixels with dpi of 72. When I lock in the 72dpi and then try and type in 344 and then the 88- the 344 changes. It won't let me put the size in no matter which way I enter it. What am I doing wrong? These are the instructions for the DSR image to customize my page.

File/New/View Advanced Options.

UNCHECK Maintain Proportions

Type in your pixel measurements. Click in the circle next to it to lock it in.

Change the resolution to 72. Click in the circle next to it to lock it in.

Don't forget to check the resolution next time you open a new canvas to make sure it is back to 300 for layouts.

Just to add: When you click on Advanced Options, make sure you have the resolution locked in first. (no matter what it says) You need to have that locked so you can uncheck the maintain proportions box. Then change the pixels and lock in. Then change the resolution to 72.
