Unhappy It's me again....the newbie...

Ok....I made up some doodles. I would really like to use them on a layout. Anyway I went through the whole scanning process and I can't use it in DIP. I noticed for some reason it saved my scan as a PDF?!?!? Why? I tried going back and rescanning to try to use another format but i can't. What am I doing wrong and can someone help me?

The format your scanner saves in depends on what file format your scnner is set at to do
So launch your scanner software and check the settings - without knowing what scanner you have I cant be more specific, but every scanner will let you choose the output file type
You should probbaly choose tiff to scan at and at 600PPi - save the file to your harddrive then open in DIP

Crystal,
What are you drawing your doodles on? I've had my program for about a year and haven't ventured past creating layouts only. Doodles sounds like fun- but how do you do it?

Doodle on a clean bright white peice of paper using a fine tipped art pen - In Australia they are called Artliners or you can use a Zig writer which is a scrapbooking pen brand.
Make sure your hands are clean so you dont smudge or dirty the paper and try not to brush back over where you draw.
Doodle your designs.
Scan - genrally best at 600ppi in tif.
Open in DIP
Use the Magic Wand to remove the white - zoom right in and remove any obvious missed bits with the transparency brush.
Then select Effects> Fill with texture or color> black to define the lines.
You can then use your Marquee Tool to seperate your doodles.

HTH

Wow ShelleyRae- that sounds very intricate. Very easy- but intricate. Hope that makes sense. I may give it a whirl. Mabe time-consuming is the right word I'm looking for. One question- when you say to use the transparency brush to get rid of all the white- can you crop all the white first- getting as close to the doodle as possible (box shape)- then use the transparency brush for the rest. Or does that change the size of the doodle?

i feel a bit slow here, but i just got my own scanner, and scan everything at jpg and don't know much about tiff to be honest. If you are just going to delete the white space anyways, why is it not working in the jpg format? is it less clear?
sorry for the probably pretty duh question, but i have never scanned in images for designing purposes as of yet and usually use a wacom tablet (which does not work well at all in dip btw unless im doing something way wrong) for doodling so i would love to know the difference

I drew my doodles on a sheet of paper. Resolution was scanned at 200. It came out pretty clear. I then opened DIP...opened my scanned file and used the marquee tool to copy and paste each image onto a new canvas. (I don't know if you have to do this but I did. There was some touching up on each image that I wanted to do, and it wasn't so overwhelming looking at one at a time.) Like I said they came out pretty clear but could have used a little "umph". So I made them darker. (Effects>Filters>All Filters>Photocopy. Under Photocopy go to Change Advance Options, set Detail at 24.) This will really make them pop. Then when you finished editing click on the "magic wand">copy>new>select canvas size>paste>save. Now I probably made a lot more steps than needed (I'm VERY new at this) but this was the only way I could get a good, clean, crisp image.

I hope this made sense. Anyway off to doodle some more. I have some super cute christmas doodles to do. Maybe I'll try to submit them for the freebies section?!?!? After I figure out how to do zip files and such?!?!? My brain is getting overloaded with all this new and fun information!
