Uninstalled Fonts in DIP9?

Another quirky thing I've noticed in DIP9 is that the little trick for using a font that you haven't installed doesn't appear to work.

I open the font, miminize it, and then open DIP9. The font is available for use in the font drop down box, but when you select the font, the characters aren't visible.

I also tried selecting the font using Text / Font from the menu, and it did the same thing.

Am I missing something?

Janet

I just tried it in DIP7 and it didn't work either. It works in Picture It though.

Unhappy

I have just bought DIP9 today, and am having the same problem.
The uninstalled fonts are useable through
Add Something>Shaped Text but not through
Add Something>Text (even though they appear in the list).

I have also been told that it does work if you open the fonts you want and minimise them BEFORE you open DIP ..I can't swear to it because i just have all my thousands of fonts installed (I know naughty me LOL)

That's right Shelleyrae. That applies for any program you are using.

Thanks, Shellyrae and KimLizzy.

Apparently this is a bug in DIP 9 -- at least in the copy I have.

I open the font and minimize it. Then, I insert a text block, type my text, and select the text to change the font. The font name is in the drop down list, but when I select it the text in the text box in no longer visible. If I go back and select an installed font, poof, the text is visible again.

Since Jenzie pointed out that it works correctly in "insert shaped text", I might try that. I see that the first option under shaped text is a plain rectangle.

I have been installing and uninstalling the fonts I want to use. Of course now that I know someone has installed 1,000's and lived to tell .....

It really isn't a good idea to have more than 500 fonts installed on your hard drive because they really slow down the system and that is often the cause for programs freezing or not having enough memory to complete tasks. If you keep them in the windows fonts folder, they are installed. If you keep them in a separate folder on C drive called, for example, "uninstalled fonts" then they aren't actually installed even though they are on your computer. That is the folder you open and minimise from.
