Hi Nicky!

I have had that problem in the past too... first thing is to make sure that you don't have anything else running while you are using DIP (like window media player, or another graphics program).

The next thing I noticed is that if I do insert>from my computer>then a full background page; if I do that more than a couple of times, it really freezes on me. Even if I am "croping" some of the papers... so, this was my solution, and it seems to work MUCH better....

insert>shape>square make the square the size you want the paper to be (that can either be the whole size of your layout or smaller for a mat or journalling strip) after you get the right shape select it and then effects>fill with texture or color>picture>from my computer>chose the paper you want>done

I hope this helps you!

Nicky,

I've had the same problem and I've done a few of different things - first if you look at the size of your layout while in .png after adding only a few items, it's huge. So I insert a shape and use "fill with picture" instead of laying the backgrounds directly on the LO, this seems to keep the size down. Also, I've added an extra hard drive where I store all of my "stuff" so that it doesn't bog down my system. When I open a new layout, I immediately save it to this hard drive. Also, if you flatten your background or your pics and mats/frames once you have them the way you like it seems to take less bytes. However, this can be tricky if you're like me and like to move things around. Good luck

How much memory do you have? I have 512M and although it's slow I've rarely had it crash. Beside CLOSING files that you have finished moving onto your LO, you can check if you've got a lot of programs that are sitting in your memory (Windows Task Manager, Ctl-Alt-Del, under Processes) that are eating up your memory.
