What do you mean by creating custom backgrounds..if you mean adding textures, sadly no But you can use the Texturiser plugin and create your own textures to use in that.
If you want the link let me know

www.dixielady.com/tutorials/SusanH/Texturiz.8bf is the link. Simply place it in your plugins folder. It comes with three basic default textures but you can load more. It is actually a PSP program. Here are some websites where you can download a variety of textures. This website shoudl help you with using them and making your own ( and dont forget to share in the SBB gallery! lol)
Here are a couple of sites you can collect textures from ..then just do a google search for more. you can use any jpg file but you need to convert to psd..since i know you have PSe i know you can do it Most of what i have were collected as psd's but few of the sites are around now. These sites have the best textures IMO

my question for you is how did you make the overlays, it looks just like a brushes used in PS. Can you put it over your image to give it a grungy look? Tell me please, please.....

p.s. you kiddos are so, so cute, I love your daughter in this layout

I can describe it briefly for you ..I am goint to be away for four days - leaving Thursday - so if you have any questions I wont reply til Monday.

The first overlay in teh freebie kit was just made using the art brushes in DIp so Effects> Paintbrush> ArtStroke. Basically just vary the type of stroke, direction, size and transparency to create the look you want. This is one case where a tutorial really wouldnt help ..its just about playing and seeing what you come up with.

The second layout uses the files i offered for download some time ago with different textures re this thread: How do you create scratched backgrounds?? that you actually started lol. Basically I used a combination of the textures I made and the art brush - using transparency gradual options, and the transparency brush to get the effect I was after. Again its really just an intuitive thing - playing til you get what you want.

Sorry I can't be more specific but have a play and see what you come up with

And thanks ..my kids are cute LOL

Shelleyrae, You are just awesome to share all this with us. I did go to the other thread you mentioned, and it seems that the link for those files you shared has expired. I got an error message..... so I don't know if you could link us again, I am experimenting with adding texture to my pages as well.
