Virtual Memory???

Does anyone else get "Virtual Memory is Running Low" message? I use DIP10 and it seems like everytime I try to layer more than 2 elements, I get this message. Any suggestions on what to do? It's so frustrating!! I have to save my LO, close the program (which takes 10 min) and then restart everything if I want to continue working. I would really appreciate any help!! Thanks so much!

Is your system fully updated and well maintained? Running Disk cleanup, Error Checking and Defrag regularly is important. Closing all programs, especially virus scanners...before opening Picture It! / Digital Image Pro is a good idea.

Adding more RAM to your computer might help, and also increasing your paging file as described in the following article may help.

I use the following freebie quite frequently to help keep my system clean...I find it to be useful:

CCleaner

I've had this message come up once or twice, but only with really large projects (20 layers, etc).

You don't mention how much RAM you have (I find anything less than 256M is a problem and crashes sometimes. I have 512M and it is slow). You should close all other applications if you do not have much RAM (mail, IE, etc.), esp applications that take up your memory.

I try to close the files in the palette as soon as I copy them into the LO file so that there are only 2-3 files opened at a time (LO plus 1-2 more).

I've also started doing LOs in 240dpi and 12x12 (some of my LO were approaching 100M!!!). This seems to help with the size of the file getting smaller and should print fine.

Try these in addition to tuning up your system.

when I increased the RAM on my laptop - I have NOT had that problem with the memory message any longer.

Unfortunately, yes. I have 2gigs of RAM on my laptop and I defrag my hard drive monthly. I use an external drive as PS scratch disk.

How much free hard drive space do you have? If that's defragged and lots open, then I can't help. But the VM uses free hard drive space as RAM. If you're out of free space, you'll error.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions/advice. I have no idea about RAM but lucky for me I'm married to a computer geek, so I'll have to ask him about that. Thanks again!
