Question DIP9 and the Edge Finder

I've seen so many beautiful layouts where the person seems to be "cut out" from the actual picture. I've done this using the edge finder tool, but I can't seem to get the edges as smooth or "normal" looking as I've seen in the layouts. Mine either have a halo effect or they're all jagged looking. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

P.S.
I'm really enjoying this site and everything it has to offer. Everyone does such beautiful work!

The edgefinder is a bit off a clumsy tool and it takes some work to get teh best out of it.
One thing you need to do is make sure you are using the right width to get teh cleanest line. The second is to feather the results ( effectively blur teh edges of the cutout so its not as rigid.) You can then clean up the edges using teh transparency brush as an eraser.
To be honest the best choice is teh freehand tol. It seem to get much better results.
Take a look at this tutorial here on selection tools in DIP.

Yeah, I've been experimenting a lot with this lately and the best results I have gotten is to use the manual tool and feather the edges. Works great but takes some practice.

I found one more thing that worked really well with this. I copied the cut-out and pasted back into the picture 4 or 5 times and the "halo" was gone and it looked a whole lot better! Thanks again!
