Help running MS_DOS Applications

Hello,

I recently downloaded a kit but I don't know how to run it.

On my computer, I select Start> Run> then select the program. A window opens up, I see a black screen with some sentences on top, then it quickly closes up. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

The kit is not a program to run. You need to open up your editting program (photoshop, paint shop pro, digital image pro, picture it, to name a few) and once your program is running you open the kit inside of that program (just like a photo). Most kits are zipped so you may also need to unzip the kit before using (using winzip or similar).

I just tried it and it does not work. I have DIP10. I tried opening the application, I tried inserting the application and it does not work.

It is funny because when I opened up DIP, I went directly to the file where I saved the MS-DOS application (the kit I downloaded) and the file is not reflected there. It looks as though the file is not in the folder although it is. When I clicked on the drop-down menu to see the type of files it can open up, I didn't see MS-DOS Application as an option.

I am running Windows XP Home Edition and use DIP10. Maybe there is a special way to do it in DIP?! I hope so!

Again, any help would be appreciated and most welcomed.
KAIT

Can you tell me the name and the location of the kit ie what site you got it from? It should not have saved as an application, unless its a self extracting zip file.
If it is a self extracting zip file, then you just double click on teh file to extract teh contents. Then you use it as usual

Hi Shelley,

It is not a self-extracting file. I had originally I tried to unzip it. I downloaded the kit from Digital Scrapbook Pages as it was a prize for answering a trivia question. At download time, I saved it to my desktop.

Thanks, Shelleyrae

Hi Kait,
What I usually do when to open my zipped files from the Desktop is :
I select the zipped file and the folder task screen opens and I click on the extract all files. The Extreaction Wizard screen opens, click next then click browse to select the directory to extract the files to. ( I usually extract my files to My Pictures) I then click on My Documents, then scroll down to my pictures folder and select it. then click ok at the bottom of the screen, then in the next screen select next then finish. Then you should be able to access your files from My Pictures folder when you open up DIP 10 . Hope I've been of help.
Maria

Thank you Maria for your response, I usually don't have any problems downloading and unzipping my files. I do it just the way you described, but this specific file came in the form of a MS_DOS application.

Thank you for posting.
