Recovering lapdesk... wut to use?

Hey gang... i want to recover my wood lapdesk with some beautiful printed digi scrap paper - what should i use to adhere it? I need to also ensure it can tolerate heat as I use my laptop on it frequently - i was thinking maybe initally adhering it with Modge Podge and then some sort of finish on it???

I've never been a big modge podge fan when it comes to crafts but it does seem to seal the paper well when you use it to adhere and also as a finishing coat. I bought an unfinished doll house bookcase for my dd a few months ago and used scrapbook paper and modge podge to "wall paper" the walls and floors of the cubbies in the bookcase. Aside from the few bubbles and bumps from the modge podge it turned out great! It is definitely sealed well and has stood up to her playing with her barbies and wooden furniture in it. The only other thing I could think of that would give you a REALLY tough finish would be some sort of epoxy, I'm not sure you would need that though, I'm thinking modge podge might be fine for sealing the top. If you are using an ink jet to print the papers, you would need to seal them first before using modge podge though - you can get spray sealers at the craft store.

not a big fan of modge podge here either. For something like that, I would probably print it out and then adhere it with clear contact paper. Years ago,, I actually redid my lapdesk from when I was a kid with a white marble contact paper, it looked great.

Be sure to show us how it turns out!

Amy how about a laptop chill pad? Mine was spendy, but I bought it before my husband lost his job. It was $28 or something like that, at the dreaded Wal-Mart.

OH! Spray Sealers... hadn't even heard of those before - will look possibly later today. Oh contact paper is another good idea and actually I think that is what is covering it right now in fact; it's just a few years old and has started to rip.... it's A PERFECT size though and just put new beanies in the bottom.

Amy, you can also thin down plain white glue and use the same as "modge podge". I second Cindy, if you're printing out your paper on inkjet printer then you need to seal, or only dab when applying any kind of liquid adhesive on the top. I think heat wise if you just spray over the surface with a sealer (there are lots of different kinds in the craft department) once it's completely dry you'll be fine, the sealer will also help to keep things from lifting and ripping after time. You might spray several coats of sealer, to make it extra durable
