Epson 2200 printing

I was just wondering what those of you with this printer do when you print out your pages. I have the epson 12 x 12 paper which is a matt finish. The manual says to use the matt black ink when printing on the matt paper but I am not sure if this is just for printing black and white photos on the paper since that is the example they sent with the printer.

I have the ink and have several layouts created now, but want to be sure what to do before I commit, since the ink isn't exactly cheap and none should be wasted!

TIA

Can't help you but maybe you can help me

I am trying to decide between the Epson 2200 and the Canon i9000. Is there a specific reason you went with the Epson? I really want to buy a wide format but just can't make up my mind!

Epson vs Cannon printer

Here's what I think (IMHO).

Epson was the first printing company to really develop archival inks and have large format printers for amateurs like myself.

My husbands computer magazine seems to always rate the 2200 as the best of the bunch.

I wanted something that was archival, could print large pictures and looked good. I have found that the pictures printed from it are often better quality than at stores or ont the web and the Premium Luster pape is the best! It is a non glossy paper that gives a professional finish.

The printer cannot print true 12x12 on 12x12 paper at this time but the small white border doesn't bother me and I could always print on larger paper and cut down. The 12x12 paper is able to be printed on both sides so that is good for the pocket book and anyone will agree that prints always look best if you use the same brand of paper as the printer. I am not sure if Cannon has a 12x12 or not.

And here is what I found on a review of the Cannon i9000 on the web:
Cons: Photo Paper Pro expensive in single packs, paper is hard to find in smaller towns requiring you to drive to Best Buy/CompUSA or order online, not as archival as Epson 2200

check out more reviews at: http://reviews.cnet.com/4852-3156_7-21070793.html to get the other side of the story too. Good luck!

Thank you for the link

It seems speed and quiet are big differences but they don't matter a whole lot to me. Will probably go for the Epson if I can find it a bit cheaper than the current one I have my eye on!

Lightbulb Following up on my own question

I didn't receive any answers from anyone here (probably all busy on those Christmas pages) so I also took the initiative and contacted Epson USA myself. The got back to me the next day with my answer.

Use the Matt Black ink on matt papers and Photo Black ink on Glossy or Semi-Glossy or Luster papers. It doesn't matter if your prints are B&W or color it is the finish of paper that matters.

So in case anyone else was wondering...there you go!

Question got one printer or two?

just curious if you by chance have a second printer also hooked up. I wanted to get the epson 2200 but alot of people reviewed it and said you can't have it on the same computer as an HP printer. Otherwise I guess it is HP or Canon.

it should not matter if you have 2 separate manufacturers printers on teh same machine as long as you install both the software for each....I have 3 separate printers on mine (epson 2200, konica laser, and a canon bubblejet) and have no problems going back and forth.....and yes...I said bubble jet!!!! I cannot kill this thing no matter how hard I try!!!
