Canon i9900 Printing Cost

I am considering buying the Canon i9900 but I would like to know if any of you have determine the average cost of printing the 12x12 at home.

I've been very happy with printing 12x18 at Costco and trimming it down to 11x14, 12x16, or 12x12 but the last time 2 times the my printout were skewed - my guess is that the feeder needs maintenance. Although they are more than willing to redo the printing when I came back it was skewed exactly the same way. The photo manager didn't think there was anything wrong with their machines so its not going to get fixed.

I would agree with the manager if I was planning to mat and frame all of these pictures since I can adjust for the skewness but some of them were going into a scrapbook album. I've tried having them print it with a border but I can't get a clean cut all the way down - even with a new blade.

I'm currently spending $2-4 for each enlargement at Costco. Outside of the holidays, I probably only print 3-6 enlargements a month. Is it worth spending the initial $500 for the printer and all the associated printing cost?

Thank you
Betty

Hi! I have the Canon i9900 and I just love it. I bought it from Newegg for approx $425. I only use Canon paper and ink with it. I usually buy my 13x19 paper at Newegg - last time I checked, they were selling 20 sheets of matte for only 11.99 plus 4.99 in fedex shipping - that's a great price and almost 1/2 the price that Amazon was selling it for at that same time. I always check both places for comparison shopping. Haven't checked lately because I'm well stocked up. I buy the glossy or matte 8.5x11 paper at Staples - they usually have a buy one/get one free sale going on.

Last time I checked, Newegg had cheaper prices for the individual ink tanks, but Amazon had a package deal for the entire 8 which wound up being cheaper than buying them all individually at Newegg.

I have not computed down to the last penny, exactly how much it costs me to print out a 12x12. But, I figured out approximately that it's more, but not too much more, than going to, say, Kinko's where, for a bit less, I could only get an 11x11 printed on their laser paper. To get a true 12x12 was almost $8 per print! Even though it may be a bit more per print to print them out myself, I prefer having my own printer and being in control of the type of paper I use, the size I can print, and print what I want, when I want.

HTH!

Thank you for input Andrea. I'm going to check out Newegg. DH said he was willing to buy me the printer - just so he didn't have to hear me get so aggravated by the poor customer service at Costco's Photo Center.

Thanks again!

Question interested in canon 9900 information

I am thinking of getting a wide format printer. I am dying to know if you got the 9900 and like it. I wanted the epson 2200 but heard alot of people who can't get it working if they have an HP printer hooked up also.

I spent two miserable weeks debating between the epson 2200 and the canon i9900. After reading approx. 1 gazillion reviews (at least, it felt like 1 gazillion!) I opted for the Canon. After a while the reviews became a tad repetitive and the strengths and weaknesses of both printers is fairly well documented. FWIW, I didn't read anything about difficulties running an Epson with another printer but I wasn't looking for that information so it may be there and I just "ignored" it.

P.S. I finally decided on the Canon and so far (having done all of 5 prints on it) I love love love it. My decision was not entirely rational despite or maybe because of my massive research. In the end, the strengths and weaknesses were not directly comparable. Just had to go with what I anticipated I would appreciate more.

My point is, you can google up a blizzard of information on Google. If you have any specific questions, I might be able to help (even though I can't answer your first specific question )

ScrapPattie - No, I have not purchased the printer yet. Once I saw how big the printer was I realized my work space would not accomondate it. I am trying to be patient to wait for our handyman to build some cabinets for me.

Nevermore - Congratulations on your purchase! I'm so jealous....the convenience of being able to print whenever you want.

Just wanted to add that I checked Amazon today out of curiosity - the Canon i9900 was listed for $376! That's the first time I've seen it cheaper than Newegg.

Printing costs

Thanks for posting this question! I love seeing what everyone has to say as I am also looking at getting a new printer. I just read a review at cnet.com where they compared five top photo printers. There was a table of specs and cost info comparing the printers - Canon i960, Canon i9900, Epson 2200, Epson R800 and HP 7960?. The cost per 8.5 x 11 page for the i9900 was estimated at 1.01. It was the next to lowest cost per page! This was a very interesting review with lots of specs to compare. I will try to insert the link -
HTH. Thanks to those who posted the price info! It is looking like maybe the i9900 will be the one!
