anyone own a canon I9900 printer?

I am going back & forth between the canon i9900 & the epson 2200. The only concern I have with the canon is the light fastness & water resistance of the ink. I know about the epson--I tested my duraink printout with water & oil--the ink stayed put! My concern with the epson is the price, & the quality. I've had 3 epsons, & while I love them to death, they don't seem to last too long. I hate giving a huge price for a printer that only comes with a 1 year warranty.
Just wondering about the ink in the canon printers.

I have that printer. Excuse me for asking but do you just want to know if the ink is colorfast?

Yep, I have that one.

I recently purchased the Canon I9900 and love it. I thought about getting the Epson but opted for the Canon because, I was told, the Epson uses a lot more ink. The Canon has 8 individual ink tanks so you only have to replace the one that runs out.... and each ink tank runs about $13. So far I've had to replace two cartridges twice and another one once. Seems to use two of the colors more than the others. I love the results! Been using the Canon Photo Pro paper and the pages look GREAT. Originally thought I would like the Matte paper but the Canon glossy Photo Pro looks so much better. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

canon i9900

Yes, I was wondering if the ink were lightfast. It's probably not worth worrying about, since we can always print another copy, lol. I'm so used to the epson ink.
I have a local photography store that sells the cartridges for the i9900 for 9.99 each, so there is a little savings.
I guess I'm a little scared to take the plunge! But I so want to print in wide format.

Hi! I have that printer too and I love it! I'm not sure about the lightfast issue but I just wanted to comment on the price of the ink and paper. I was able to get an canon i9900 8 cartridge replacement kit from Amazon for approx $72 with free shipping. I was also able to get the 13x19 paper from newegg.com for a much cheaper price than anywhere else. And sometimes Staples has the 8.5x11 paper on sale for buy one, get one free. This was approx 3 weeks ago so don't know if the prices have changed at all. Didn't know if this info help anyone or not!

Canon i9900

I just took a photo and put water on it and then wiped the water off and nothing happened. You said that you were wondering if the Canon ink would stand up to a little water and it appears to. I don't know where I read it but I remember reading somewhere that the ink on these prints should last 25 years in an album type environment. If you have your photos displayed then they need to be behind glass or they will fade (but you probably already knew that). One of the reasons I opted for the Canon was because of the ink usage. When you are printing out large format pages this is a huge consideration. I read on reviews that the Epson was an ink hog and that's why I didn't get it. I know for the Epson you can buy some kind of ink refill bottle kit that feeds into the cartridges for about $250. This would supposedly save tons in the long run. I found that with the Canon I had to play around with the settings quite a bit so, if you decide to get this one please email me, and I can tell you what I figured out. Hope this helps. Good luck.

canon printer/ thanks

thanks everyone for their input. You've convinced me!! The wet photo did it for me, lol. For some reason I think that is a good test! I like the idea of getting my cartridges locally, even tho I will have to order the paper. I can't wait!!!
Thanks again

I have a question also regarding these 2 printers

Do any of you know how much it's averaging you for a 12x12 print?

From what I was told about how many photo quality prints you could get out of the Epson, was only about 16 w/the cartridges... Which the way I figure, that's about $5 a pop...

Is this information correct...

I'm also curious about the canon i9900, and it's avg cost per lo...

Any info would be most appreciated... I have been going back and forth between the two, and maybe this would help me to decide.

TIA for your responses!
