really odd sized negs

I have 2 binders full of old bw negs from my grandmother. They are really weird sizes. Somer are almost medium format, others are about 1.5 inches wide by 3 inches and some are like 1x1 squares. Any suggestions on how to scan these? What kind of scanner would be best? Im leaning towards the epson perfection 4490 but I could really use some input!

Thanks!

I love my Canon for scanning the old negatives. It came with all the trays to hold the negatives in place, so the sizes you mentioned wouldn't be a problem.

CanoScan 8400F.

Epson has a similar model, but we could only find the canon model without a bashed-in box the weekend we went shopping in the city. Mine also came with a copy of photoshop elements, and some other useful software.

I second the canon scanners.. I have used and recommend the cheapo Canoscan 4400 if you can find one.. they are like $50 and do the job of $300 scanners...

However, any recent (<2 years old) scanner will be suffiencient. The slide attachments will not help you with the odd sized negatives anyway so just be sure to use 100% lamp power and scan at the highest resolution.. it will take awhile and create an enormous file.. but the results should be amazing. Good Luck!
