Help! My scanner has stripes

My scannner all of a sudden has verticle stripes of lighter and darker shades when it scans making the scans un-usable. I noticed last week the color was off real bad and was really dark but I thought that had to do with using a different monitor. Can anybody tell me if it I need a new scanner , a new graphic card or could it just be the cable? I have it connected through the firewire port. I hate to go buy a new scanner to find I still have the same problem.

Jody, mine does this off and on!! It is about 2 yrs old HP Scanjet 4670 and I did a google search and it is a known issue with this scanner, (I didn't know this when I bought it).

For me it is either buy a new scanner as it doesn't have anything to do with my graphic card or cable!!

The bright side...it doesn't do it all the time! Good Luck!

I was just in playing with it and now I scanned with nothing in it and it came out like a fan folded piece of paper. nice effect but not good for much. The scanner is about 5 years old so I'm off to buy a new one. Thanks tracy

Sounds like your lamp is on the fritz.. not worth repairing and I would recommend a canon canoscan 4400 if you can find one for like $40... perfect size and software driver makes for a perfect replacement.

Its an ok scanner.. best to use the PRO mode and not the Auto or Home modes which are really not very good... by the way, there is also a $40 rebate on this so for $30 it really is a great deal.. here is the rebate info:

Good luck!

you are welcome.. i'm something of a coupon/rebate "junky".. I don't purchase anything these days without doing a google search for these things... In the last 6 months alone I've probably saved close to $2000 just by buying competitive products that were either a) on sale, b) had a rebate c) had a discount or coupon code..
