Burner Problems

Ok, I am hoping someone can help. I am trying to burn some disc using my DVD/CD burner that I installed about a month ago but my PC goes through the process of burning using Nero software but then the cds are still blank. I don't know if it is the disks themselves but I tried a few differnt types (all brand new) or that the driver didn't install properly or what. It plays cds and dvds ok though. I downloaded a new driver but don't know where to install it to. HELP!!!

couple questions... please don't take these the wrong way

1) Are you sure you have a CD/DVD burner? What is the model #?
2) Are you sure the CD's are indeed blank?
3) Are you sure you are putting them into the drive the right way (label up)?
4) Are you using NERO express or the Full Nero..? Does NERO present any errors during the burn and/or show a progress bar?
5) What happens if you put the disc in the drive and then use explorer to look at the contents?
6) Have you tried other brands of discs and/or taken the "blank" ones to a different CD/DVD drive to try reading them there?
7) Are you using the multi-session setting? What if you set multi-session to No?

Thx!

Answers to above post by Pesto126
1) Samsung SHS162L Version TS06 with Lightscribe
2)Brand new out of case
3)Up the right way
4) Nero Express no errors, progress bar completes and says burn successful
5)Nothing shows up
6)In another drive it says disk is blank, and tried to burn both CD's and DVD's which are different brand
7)No multisession

This is very confusing as the drive will play DVD's and open cd's no problem just not burning. Iread somewhere that if you have multiple burning software this can cause a problem so I removed all other software but still no change

Sounds like you might have gotten a bad laser or something.. I'd return to the store and try a different one (and a different brand). Could be the lightscribe failing as well...

Yeah, think this might be a dud. It's only about a month old and still under warranty but by time I pay for postage to get it serviced it's probably not worth it. I'll get someone a bit more techy then me to have a look but might have to buy another.

if you have a local store near you, perhaps they can try it on one of their systems... however, I'm not sure about AUS prices, but in the US, buying one from newegg will only cost you around $25 so it may not be worth the hassel. Good Luck!
