blue screen everytime I reboot comptuer?

been running fine etc; but if I reboot (ie: to install AntiVirus updates, etc.) then it goes to a blue screen first. Then I power it down entirely for a few minutes, turn it on and everything is fine again.... any suggestions?

Do you get the blue screen everytime you reboot or just when you install virus updates?

If it is everytime you reboot then there is something wrong with windows

If only with virus updates, then the updates are not compatible with something else running on your system.

You could always reformatt to take care of it too

Blue screen on power-up or power-down? Makes a difference, but DH is home if you need his help tonight.

I had the blue screen of death happening for no reason at all recently. I had to format and reinstall Windows to fix it. Something made Windows unstable. I had installed that freebie program to enable thumbnail views of psd files not long before. After I had the problem I read a post somewhere from someone saying that psd viewer enabler could cause windows to become unstable. Not sure if that was actually the cause of it all but I'm playing safe now and not reinstalling it.

Hmmmm not sure that would be it as I had that installed for a while - I can't even remember what I may or may not have put on here recently - but to my knowledge nothing really - as I've barely had time to do anything even since I've been home

Amy, do you have a large EHD connected through a USB port? I was having a similar problem, then just happened to read the instructions that came with my new EHD (d'uh!, right?) and it mentioned that the EHD should always be turned off using the safe turnoff feature in the system tray otherwise it could cause the computer to hang up in shutdown mode. Since I've started doing the shut down of the EHD first, I haven't had the blue screen hangup.
