Costco printing

I got my first few pages printed at Costco. They were pretty good but darker than they look on their screen. I had read somewhere to fill the extra space with 50% grayscale - do you do that? Any other advice? Also, do you get them printed the regular finish or glossy?

TIA, I'm new to all of this

Hmmmm...I've never had a problem printing at Costco...I leave the BG white. I use the lustre finish.

the pictures should have matched their screen or their systems might not be calibrated correctly.. if you pull up the photo on their kiosk and show them the prints which are visibly darker.. they should correct them and reprint them for free.

Now.. if your prints are just darker than they are at home.. that's a different story and a result of your system calibration.

thanks for your replies. I did a second set and they looked great - not sure what helped - used a different Costco, used white background and was a week later. Next time I'll check them when I pick them up and if they're dark, check their screen.

thanks!

yes you can have 12x18s printed at costco. if you are printing there, LOs that is, resize to 97% or just take them off the edge a bit, as they tend to 'trim' w/ their programming.

a 12x18 at Costco is 2.99.

related questions:

how do you resize to 97% (I'm using photoshop) - I did notice that they trim the photos so I lost a little bit of an element that I had close to the edge.

Also, how can I use the extra space. My orignal is 12 x 12 and then I'm increasing the canvas to 12 x 18. I'd like to paste in a 6 x 6 copy of my LO but I can't figure out how to copy an entire layout to paste it in.

many ways to do this.. but here's an easy one. Create your 12x12 layout.. duplicate layer.. increase canvas size to 12x18.. move duplicate layer and transform it to fit in the space that is blank..

to resize to 97%.. just resize and enter 97 as the percentage.. easy eh?
