Laptop Advice needed please!

I'm planning on buying a laptop and need some advice from people who have them.... my main use will be for digiscrapping, and I'm looking for the best bargain I can get for $1000 or under, but will spend more if necessary to get something that will meet my needs. I use pse 4.0. I do NOT want a Mac. Anyone out there able to help me out? Thanks!

I just bought an Acer 4400, for about $1000, in July. I'm sure you can get something even better than mine now, 3 months later. But I'm really happy with mine. I use it almost exclusively for digiscrapping, and it works great.

Acer user here too! Couldn't beat the price for what you get although now mine is outdated
since it is over 1 yr old! I have an Aspire 1691
Pent M 725 1.6 Ghz 400 mhzfsb 2mb L2 cache
80 gb HD
came with 512 MB RAM but added so I have 1gb now.
I can run 2 programs at once with no problem and they are memory hogs too so I think it does a great job.
I use mine for scrapping and surfing but not designing.

Hi Lori.
If you are set on having a Windows platform, I just bought a Gateway laptop with 1 gig ram and the AMD Turion 64 dual processor. The key to any windows platform computer when using it for large digital applications is the dual processor and a large amount of ram. Apple,on the other hand, has a much more capable processor for graphics and digital tasks. They have a few ibooks out now that would be sufficient for digital imaging projects that are just about $1000. If you can wait, their new PC platform that has come out has a processor that is dual platform (runs Windows and Mac applications). It's expensive now, I'm sure, but due to the fact that technology is updated on an almost daily basis, the price should come down. Bottom line, for Windows platform get a dual processor and lots of ram or better yet a Mac. Hope this helps!
Good Luck!
Michelle

I have a widescreen Dell that is now almost 2 years ld and love it - Since you can mix and match features I believe its very competitive. I upgraded the RAM, HD and got a seperate Graphics card.

I have a Sony Vaio Laptop
It has an intel pentium 4, 1000MHz, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD

It does a wonderful job with scraping and I use PSE4.0 and PSCS2. The only fault I have with it is the screen is very small.. so designing on it is not very easy

It was given to me as a gift, so I can't complain But if I was going to purchase a new laptop, I would go with a Dell

When I shopped for a laptop almost a year ago, the salesperson at Best Buy asked me what I was going to use it for. I told him the usual office stuff BUT mainly for digiscrapping. In short, something that will access Photoshop AND endless folders of pictures and kits.

He told me to go with a laptop with GAMING specs. The reason for this is for faster access to files, which is what gaming configurations do. I followed his advice and have NEVER regretted it!

I can open Photoshop along with Word or Excel and it doesn't skip a beat. I also initially got 1.25 Gig of RAM for memory just to "juice" it up. No complaints whatsoever! Since then, I've upgraded with a little bit more memory to make it 1.75 Gigs of RAM...and am STILL happy with it

Before I went shopping for a laptop, I had also decided that I wanted a true desktop replacement....one that wouldn't sacrifice speed and power for the size. As a result, I have an HP Pavilion zv6000 that weighs 8 pounds aI think, LOL! But I have a roller bag for it, so it's no big deal bringing it around.

HTH!
