Arrow ~Help---> External Hard Drive---> Plz Help~

Let me see if I can explain this correctly w/out confusing myself!
I have a Maxtor External that was always in F-Drive as of last week for some reason It is in my G-Drive I can't download anything to it cuz it says it's not the correct path location or no disc was found I always get one or the other error message and my whole CPU freezes!
I have removed, rebooted and I can't recall my external coming with any hardware so
Are there any TECHS that could help me out w/my frustrating the heck out of me dilema?
Hardware is such a tricky thang' when you don't know much about it!
~TIA~

Did you plug it into a different USB port? That might be how it got called G: now. I believe the drive letters are named according to which port you use.

Also if you are clicking on shortcuts that refer to F: yes you will probably get errors on the path location or no disk.

Try plugging it into a different port. Or you should also be able to access it using Windows Explorer instead of clicking on shortcuts.

Hi Mary!

Try this (assuming you are on Windows system)....

When that drive boots up again and is labeled on G....

Go to:
Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Adminstrative Tools

Double click on Computer Management

Click on Disk Management

Now you will have a listing of the drives your computer sees.

Right click on the G drive

Change Drive Letters and Paths

Click on Change

Enter the letter "F" or whatever you want it changed to

Viola -that should do it
